Role Overview:

The Global Data Team has been tasked with developing a ‘Global Data Platform' (GDP) to provide step-change analytical and insight capabilities firmwide. Well-managed data is the lifeblood of the organisation and is relied upon to drive critical decision making at all levels of the business. As the GDP rolls out to more stakeholders across the business, there is a requirement to manage the relationships with these stakeholders, and to ensure delivered product meets the stakeholders requirements.

The Data Product Manager will manage on an ongoing basis the relationship with GDP stakeholders, ensuring business priorities and challenges are understood by the entire delivery team.

Key Deliverables and Accountabilities:

Work with business stakeholders to develop and prioritise a product backlog, representing the stakeholder in technical meetings.

Elaborate requirements into user stories, developing consistently structured documentation that can easily be understood by stakeholders and technical resource.

Devise and manage a centrally-accessible resource for product/project documentation.

Champion the product management function with stakeholders, explain where it fits into agile product delivery and facilitate their engagement with the process.

Work in tandem with the Agile Practice Lead to embed agile best practice within the business to support programme delivery.

Develop business empathy regarding the value of proposed products, communicating business value to technical delivery teams, so they have clear context for their own tasks.

Facilitate stakeholder engagement in the delivery process, ensuring they understand clearly, technical challenges that affect project progress and can support timely decision-making.

Have a broad understanding of the component parts of the development lifecycle, to the extent the incumbent is comfortable discussing technical matters related to data architecture, data engineering and data visualisation.

Ensure product requirements align with corporate standards in relation to IT security, privacy etc.

Own the testing strategy for a product, ensuring tests align with product functional and non-functional requirements.

Working iteratively with data architecture and data engineering teams, support the development programme of the GDP by coordinating the testing of data ingestion and transformation routines, ensuring data is accurate and aligned with business requirements.

Facilitate post-project review sessions to identify recommendations and improvements for future projects. Continually review and report on the impact of delivered products.

Manage priorities of a BAU backlog, maintaining stakeholder engagement post-project.

Proactively work with the stakeholder community to develop ideas for new data products.

Technical Capabilities:

Has excellent interpersonal skills and is fully experienced at dealing with clients/users. Is thoroughly familiar with the concepts and practices required to implement effective IT solutions, particularly those employed in own organisation. Possesses a broad understanding of business and business skills, and understands the significance of commercial constraints. Is able to recognise potential assignments outside own areas of specialisation and bring to bear appropriate expertise as necessary.

Works closely with customers to help clarify their needs and requirements; devise solutions and assess their feasibility and practicality. Demonstrates technical feasibility using physical or simulation models.

Ensures documentation of the supported components is available and in an appropriate form for those providing support. Creates and maintains support documentation. Able to consider the holistic impact of a change to the business and production environment. Ensures that the communication is managed to the business.

Within a business change programme, assists in the preparation of technical plans and cooperates with business assurance and project staff to ensure that appropriate technical resources are made available.

Investigates, defines and resolves complex problems.

Qualifications:

Desired:

AIPMM certified digital product manager or can demonstrate equivalent experience.

Experience:

Previous experience of working on a strategic data programme, involving the integration or migration of multiple data sources.

Familiarity with testing approaches.

Comfort with SQL or Python.
