We've seen exponential growth here at AO over the past 12 months. Coupled with our high-reaching growth plans over the coming years, now is the right time to appoint our first dedicated Data Science Lead, a new, transformational role within AO. Reporting to the Head of Data, this role will be responsible for defining, creating and executing our group-level Data Science strategy across AO, enabling the business with predictive analytics and AI. This is the chance for the right data science and AI professional to make something their own and make a difference, pulling the whole strategy, stakeholders and approach under one roof, ensuring we're fit for now and the future. Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing

We'll be looking for you to deliver AO's first data science initiatives whilst at the same time proving the value of data science at AO and correspondingly justifying further investment in the Data Science function. You will be accountable for creating and executing the data science operating model and onboarding staff into the team when your successes call for further investment. You'll be an influencer of technology and business teams. Working daily hand-in-hand with the business to uncover data science use cases and embed solutions in their daily processes. You will make the case for centralised versus citizen data science, whilst simultaneously improving AO's literacy around machine learning and AI. You will create strong relationships with senior executives, directors and other senior leaders, across both Tech and the wider group. We'll look to you to develop and implement standards, processes and procedures, as well as guidelines for the department and wider business. Big wins will be developing a culture of "data first" thinking, where predictive analytics, advanced analytics, machine learning and AI are at the forefront of business process development. By partnering with all of AO's Tech teams, you'll ensure data science best practice is by-design through close engagement. You'll liaise with and manage your partners, stakeholders, vendors, and third-party service or solutions providers with a view to continuously enhancing our data science capabilities. A Few Things About You

You'll bring significant, relevant long-term experience, ideally across a mixture of technical data science disciplines and working closely with business. You can show a strong track record of setting and delivering on well-defined data science strategies, clearly and concisely. Ideally, you'll have already driven data science projects and proven clear business benefits and ROI in earlier roles, and you'll be comfortable leading change agendas in a fast-paced, demanding environment and driving results that change the business. You'll be in-the-know about industry trends and best practice. You've got fresh ideas and a desire to build a data-driven culture. You've got a proven record of keeping your stakeholders up to speed in all the latest arts of the possible, in both a technical and non-technical capability. A critical part of this role will be influencing across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, so strong communication skills, up to and including senior leadership are a must - plus, we'll need to be comfortable that not only are you an expert in your field but are also able to relay compelling/critical messages in layman terminology. Key Responsibilities

Responsible for the definition, creation and execution of the group-level Data Science strategy, which enables a data-driven business. Deliver quick wins to the AO business. Responsible for making the case for further investment in the Data Science function, based upon successes to-date and a provable ROI. Hire and manage Data Science team members, as investment permits. Create and implement the Data Science operating model, across Technology and the business. Define and own data science standards, processes, best practices and design patterns. Ensure compliance to these standards across AO. Conceive and deliver data science literacy initiatives across technology and the business. Plan and lead all Data Science initiatives. Create strong relationships with senior executives, directors and other senior leaders and key stakeholders across both Tech and the wider group. Oversee staff training in the latest data science awareness skills. Form strong, effective relationships with the Data Engineering and Analytics teams. Liaise with and manage your partners, stakeholders, vendors, and third-party service or solutions providers.
