You will contribute to the Group R&D Next Generation Department agenda by leading the research and development of modelling and simulation techniques, and the application of such techniques into innovative industry 4.0 solutions. Key responsibilities:

Engage with internal divisional stakeholders, DSSW, and Group I&T to develop innovative industry 4.0 solutions for DS Smith-specific needs. Build an R&D modelling and simulation platform to be applied to ongoing projects and new project opportunities across the business. Collaborate with the Digital & Data Hub to set up an MLOps environment and automated pipelines for model tuning and testing. Using the DS Smith Delivery Framework, proactively manage project workstreams by building strong and engaged teams, maintaining project documentation, and holding regular & concise reviews. Provide actionable and value-adding recommendations, as well as new project ideas based on data advanced analytics. Assist the Operations Teams in the development and execution of project trials through the R&D lifecycle. Collaborate with the Production and Operational Excellence Teams in identifying opportunities for the application of innovative Industry 4.0 solutions. Partner with external suppliers, research institutes, and universities in scouting state-of-the-art modelling and simulation techniques and applying them to new R&D project ideas. About you

Practical Machine Learning experience with a focus on supervised and unsupervised learning. Strong knowledge of Github and Python, understanding on how to run scripts. Experience in data preparation, statistical methods and operations research. Preferable experience in smart manufacturing. Ability to translate use cases into models. STEM Masters, Data Science Masters, Applied Mathematics Masters, Computer Science Master’s or similar. About us
