Short Summary Our Database Team Lead oversees the design, maintenance, and optimisation of our SQL and Postgres database environments to ensure that our database systems meet the high standards of performance, security, and availability that our customers demand. Key Responsibilities of the role: Leading, coaching and developing a team of database administrators, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities. Managing and administering SQL and Postgres database systems, ensuring their optimal availability, performance, and security. Developing and implementing database best practice, standards, and policies to maintain data integrity and confidentiality. Collaborating with our development teams to optimise database queries and schema designs for performance. Monitoring database performance, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and ensuring the availability and reliability of database systems. Remaining current with industry trends and emerging database technologies to recommend system improvements. Evaluating and recommending hardware and software for database infrastructure upgrades or expansion where required. Maintaining a deep technical understanding of SQL and Postgres database systems. Gaining extensive knowledge in the Key applications which utilise the databases provisioned. Preparing and delivering regular reports in relation to database performance, trends, and improvements. Ensuring all documentation complies with our ISO9001 QMS and best practice. Ensuring the team have the appropriate resource levels to deliver business outcomes. What experience do I need: Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Extensive experience as a PostGres and SQL database administrator including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Previous experience with both Linux and Microsoft Operating Systems. Agile and Prince 2 essential. Previous experience in leading, developing and coaching a team. Relevant certifications: Microsoft SQL qualifications, PostgreSQL Certified Engineer are a plus. In-depth knowledge of database security, encryption, and access control mechanisms. Strong understanding of database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing. Familiarity with high availability and disaster recovery solutions for SQL and Postgres databases. Experience with database monitoring and management tools. Knowledge of database migration and version upgrade procedures. Scripting and automation skills for database tasks.
