GBP 45,000 - GBP 60,000 / year Description We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Database Engineer to join our business as we continue to scale. We are looking for a talented and experienced Database Engineer to help us to develop our in-house data architecture. As an engineer on our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing data solutions that will be used across several functions in the company. You will work closely with economists, econometricians, blockchain engineers, scientists, and product managers to create innovative solutions that help our customers improve their operations and make better decisions. You'll spend your time: Designing, developing, and testing software to build our data solution Ensuring data is cleaned, processed, harmonized, and curated in alignment with industry standards Working closely with other economists, econometricians, blockchain engineers, scientists, and product managers to create innovative solutions Staying up to date on the latest trends in software development, with a focus on databases and APIs Defining and documenting best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and maintenance Ensuring database performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards for code and data quality and thoughtful design Working with key business stakeholders, IT experts and subject-matter experts to plan and deliver optimal analytics and data science solutions The key experience we're looking for: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field 3+ years of experience in software development with a focus on data solutions Fully conversant with Agile and DevOps development methodology and concepts as applied to data-driven analytics projects, including CI/CD Coding, security testing best practice and standards Competent in SQL, Python Experience with version management tools such as Git Experience with containerization, ideally Docker Experience with software development tools such as Visual Studio Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of business analysts, developers, data scientists, and subject-matter experts Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to establish strong, positive working relationships and rapport with diverse groups of team members The following would be advantageous: Experience with TimescaleDB and PostgreSQL Knowledge of economic and/or electricity grid data Knowledge of statistics, econometrics, data science and/or machine learning Knowledge of R, C/C++, Java Experience with cloud computing platforms Experience with software development What we offer: Salary: GBP 45K - GBP 60K dependent on skills & experience Private Medical Insurance Flexible Pension policy tailored to your requirements 33 days annual leave + Holiday purchase/sell scheme Dental cash-back scheme Cycle-to-Work scheme Season travel ticket loan Enhanced company sick pay & Income Protection Life Assurance This role is based onsite at Quartermile in Edinburgh. * This opportunity is only available for candidates with existing right to work in the UK.
