Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today. The University has long recognised the importance of IT as a core component of the day-to-day running of its business. Thanks to a high level of ongoing investment, it can proudly boast some of the latest enterprise scale systems. Position Overview

As a Datacentre Engineer, you will be jointly responsible for the management of the University’s two primary datacentres along with a number of smaller satellite datacentres. You will assist with the administration of the Data Storage Systems (HPE Alletra SANs and Scality), Backup/Recovery infrastructure (Veeam), and maintaining the integrity of the user and application data they hold, managing physical server hardware maintenance (HPE), centralised High Performance Computing (HPC) service and the datacentres and their supporting infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

Manage and maintain the University’s datacentres. Administer Data Storage Systems (HPE Alletra SANs and Scality). Oversee Backup/Recovery infrastructure (Veeam). Ensure the integrity of user and application data. Maintain physical server hardware (HPE). Support centralised High Performance Computing (HPC) service. Perform out-of-hours work as required, including scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Qualifications

The university’s server infrastructure is split between Windows and RedHat Linux, so you will be experienced with both operating systems. This is a key role upon which the effective running of the University’s critical IT service (both administrative and student facing) depends upon. This is a particularly exciting time for the Datacentre Group as key services such as a centralised HPC service are being expanded and the adoption and integration of Cloud technologies. This varied and fulfilling role will play an important part in the continued evolution of the University’s IT provision. In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies. If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you. LJMU is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and communities irrespective of age, transgender status, disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and religion or belief. All our appointments are made on merit.
