An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the unique Midwifery sonography service in Powys working four days a week on a fixed term contract for fourteen months to cover maternity leave. All Powys Midwifery sonographers work as part of a team, offering dating scans and combined screening, NIPT testing, anomaly scans and growth scans for our caseload in Powys. Powys midwife sonographers also offer antenatal care to women who may be having serial scans. There are agreed pathways for referral for any abnormalities or slow growth to the District General Hospitals who border Powys. Powys Midwifery sonographers are Band 7s and there is a Band 8a Governance lead who offers a robust system of image reviews and support and advice to the team.
Powys Maternity services provide a Day Assessment Unit (DAU) and scanning service in Welshpool, Newtown, Llandrindod Wells, Brecon and Ystradgynlais. DAU services are run with the support of a designated Band 3 MSW and DAU also provide GTT and BP monitoring services. Powys midwife sonographers are trained to offer Influenza and Pertussis vaccinations to clients who attend DAU.
The postholder would be providing services in Brecon, Ystradgynlais or Llandrindod Wells.
Main duties of the job
Provide clinical specialist midwifery care for the effective running of maternity day assessment services.
Work closely with the multiple-disciplinary team without direct supervision and under their own responsibility, recommend appropriate clinical decisions arising from findings instigate appropriate follow-up and/or further investigations for any anomalous findings, as per departmental policies, keeping the client informed and gaining appropriate consent.
Specialist expertise, specified diagnostic testing, ultrasound scanning and normal birth.
Provide appropriate counselling when necessary.
Conduct dating scans and combined screening.
Perform detailed obstetric scanning for foetal abnormalities.

Person Specification Qualifications and/or knowledge
Registered Midwife
BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Imaging or DCR (R) PG Dip in Medical Ultrasound, Obstetric Ultrasound modules
PG Certificate in Medical & Obstetric Ultrasound or equivalent qualification
Experience
Demonstrable experience in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound
Demonstrable competence in NT screening - DQASS registered
Experience in providing midwifery antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care
Experience of working in a community setting
Experience of working in a maternity day assessment unit
Knowledge and Understanding
Participation within the team in care monitoring, audit and evaluation
Must be able to allocate work and provide day-to-day supervision
Skills and abilities
IT literacy in various applications
Must be able to work independently and be competent to write a concise and accurate report
Demonstrate a high standard of clinical skills
Must be able to make judgments on a wide variety of complex clinical, staff and operational issues
