Job Title: Development Engineer, DEF Systems Salary Grade: £47,615 + Dependent upon experience Location: Peterborough Benefits: 25 days annual leave + bank holidays Up to 10% Bonus Contributory pension scheme - Caterpillar will double the employee's contribution Up to 10% Contributory share scheme - Caterpillar will match 50% of the employee's contribution. About IPSD Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including marine, petroleum, industrial applications, electric generators, and locomotives. Job Summary An exciting opportunity to join the DEF System Component Engineering team, working as a development engineer focusing on the current and future development of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system across the IPSD-M engine range. Additional Information Full-time role hybrid - minimum 3 days per week on site Up to 10% global travel. What You Will Do As a Development Engineer within the DEF system team, you will be expected to have development experience, knowledge of IC engines/aftertreatment systems and be able to lead, plan and execute challenging tasks/projects. Tasks will include: Execution of validation work consisting of component, dyno and machine testing Planning and managing project and sub-project deliverables Providing regular, concise and effective communication to a range of peers and stakeholders Conducting risk assessment through effective FMEA generation on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs. Be capable of understanding technical issues as they arise and execute root cause analysis through relevant tools, methods, data analysis and testing to resolve the issue Conduct or generate reports to support component and system design reviews Support resolution to production, test and field issues, diagnose issues to root cause, put in place containment actions, and develop permanent corrective actions. Work with suppliers using APQP methodology and tools What You Have Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles: Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Approaches a situation or problem by defining the problem or issue and determining its significance. Analytical Thinking: Identifies, obtains, and organizes relevant data whilst recognizing and prioritizing the relevant required actions. Effective Communications: Excellent communications skills and teamwork with both internal teams and external suppliers. Technical Excellence: Previous knowledge and experience of diesel engine development and new product introduction. Basic awareness of DEF system and aftertreatment function. Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Adheres to standard troubleshooting procedures to ensure effectiveness of resolution.
