Our Chipping Sodbury office is nestled within Yate in the heart of rural surroundings, providing an idyllic setting for a workspace. The Heidelberg Materials UK Shared Service Centre (SSC) works alongside the business providing administrative support functions and customer excellence. The Accounting & Reporting department is responsible for providing timely, accurate and insightful management accounts to the business. This role acts as a deputy to the UK Subject matter expert in this area, supporting them in delivering operational excellence and process improvement, whilst providing strong leadership to the team.

Operational Excellence

Deliver customer service excellence to all stakeholders throughout the end to end processes.

Support the Manager in ensuring the UK management accounts, reporting and financial accounts are produced on time, efficiently and accurately and that UK balance sheet risk is actively managed and fully understood.

Lead the close for designated function(s) and a business line ensuring it is delivered in a timely and accurate manner and that both internal and group reporting requirements are met. Ensure a model of best practice is implemented and rolled out to other functions and business lines.

Support the Manager in ensuring that all projects that impact accounting processes are fully engaged with. Take a proactive role in ensuring risk is identified.

Process Improvement

Remain up to date with system and best practice changes in relevant fields, considering applicability to Heidelberg Materials UK.

Support in preparation of robust business cases for change, influencing senior stakeholders from both financial and non-financial operational areas.

Challenge the status quo, ensuring that the department and related processes remain aligned to business needs as these change.

Leadership

Act as a role model in delivery of the SSC leadership charter values, including collaboration, respect, honesty, and communication.

Support and actively mentor the Team Leaders within the Management Accounting department. Play an active role in helping them manage their teams successfully.

Develop and coach team members to ensure that they achieve their maximum potential.

Support the Manager and Team Leaders in developing a team of cross skilled subject matter experts whilst ensuring bottlenecks and key person dependencies are removed.

Financial & Non-Financial Accountabilities

Scope: Support for all business lines and functions which are agreed to be the responsibility of the SSC.

Ownership of a function and expert knowledge and key point of contact for either HQP or Cementitious Team. This role will have 4-6 direct reports. Additional circa 15 FTE dotted line.

Finance Competence

Excellent management accounting skills.

Ability to work with non-financial management in explaining financial concepts.

Comfortable dealing with senior managers.

Strong understanding of risk and control processes.

Ability to apply relevant technical knowledge unsupported.

Strong work ethic and ability to work autonomously to achieve tight deadlines.

Pro-active approach to process improvements, and able to lead initiatives.

Up to date knowledge of Technical Accounting and other reporting guidelines.

Experience of managing a team of accountants of varying degrees of experience / qualification advantageous.

Soft Skills

Excellent excel skills.

SAP / BI skills preferential.

Education/Qualification

Qualified Accountant CIMA / ACCA / ACA with at least 3 years PQE.

In addition to these functions employees are required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required.
