The College has four faculties, each managed by a Faculty Head, Deputy Faculty Head, and several Heads of School. The faculty management team is responsible for the strategic and operational management of course programmes within a group of college departments. Each faculty will work within a remit specific to their area. The remit will outline the key focus areas for each faculty and will be subject to review by the College to reflect the goals, aims, and strategic objectives within FE and the College. Curriculum departments are grouped into faculties. The Head of School has primary responsibility for the specific department and individuals within a team, while the Faculty Head holds primary responsibility for the whole faculty and its targets. Purpose & Key Accountabilities To support the Head of School in day-to-day management of individual schools and have responsibility for specific projects or management roles. It is expected that the post holder will contribute to course design and development of courses and programmes. The post holder is also required to liaise closely with the Head of School and other staff within the school. Deputy Head of School Responsibilities Assist with timetabling of courses across the school Assist with supervision of team members Hold meetings to support the Head of School when required Support in developing and implementing a teaching cover rota for the School Deputise for the Head of School at meetings Ensure that learners are on appropriate courses leading to progression Support personal needs and that learners receive realistic, achievable targets to aid progression Support ethos of positive behavior and encouragement in your team Raise standards of learners' attainment and achievement within the curriculum area and monitor and support learner progress Primary Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities Deliver high-quality teaching and learning across a range of programmes Provide teaching and assessment opportunities in line with college and awarding body requirements to promote access to achievement Provide and maintain teaching materials including handouts, assignments, booklists, and assessment papers Maintain currency of learning materials for learners uploaded to the college platform Prepare Electronic Schemes of Work and Schemes for Assessment as agreed with the Head of School Act as a Course Tutor undertaking course responsibilities as agreed with the Head of School Undertake necessary administrative tasks required for the effective operation of courses and programmes Carry out moderation/assessment and verification if/where required Work with colleagues to integrate and contextualize Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity themes into the curriculum Tutorial Responsibilities Act as a course tutor with responsibility for supporting learners in achieving their learning outcomes, goals, and targets Track and review learners' progress and maintain learner records Provide feedback and reports on progress to learners, parents/guardians, employers, external agencies, and the Head of School Support work placements as part of learners' programmes Carry out Serious misconduct meetings Team Administration, Liaison, and Development Communicate effectively with other team members Participate in course team reviews/evaluation and attend School Meetings Respond to curriculum development and new course initiatives originating from within the School/College Advise on resource requirements for effective implementation of courses and programmes Liaise with external awarding bodies' representatives, e.g., External verifiers/moderators About South and City College Birmingham We are one of the largest further education providers in the UK, with eight campuses across the city.
