In Calderdale, there is a distinct lack of Alternative Provision, which, combined with post-pandemic challenges, has meant that the number of permanently excluded students has reached three figures. In 2023, we took the bold decision to make significant contributions to being part of the solution to this issue. Last academic year, we opened a tier two provision called Trinity Academy Carlton Mill, initially for students that attend our school. However, in line with our ambition to be part of a Calderdale solution, we are now opening this to students from other schools so that young people across the borough can benefit from the great work we are doing. At Trinity Academy Carlton Mill, we work with children who are at risk of permanent exclusion so that they can be reintegrated back into a mainstream setting. We offer Trinity 14-week breakout placements for students in years 7 to 10 within Calderdale. The aim of each placement is for students to become better equipped to access mainstream education, and we work with each student on an individual basis to meet their needs. We work in partnership with a host of specialists and the referring academy or school to give students the best possible chance of successful reintegration. In the role of Deputy Head of Service, you will work within Carlton Mill’s senior team to ensure that our aims and objectives become a reality. In addition to the academic and personal development elements of our work, from April this year, we will also be home to an 'Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforce'. The taskforce takes a multi-agency approach to meet the needs of some of Calderdale's most vulnerable young people and is comprised of: EAL Engagement Officer Educational Welfare Officer Family Support Worker Specialist Administrator Mental Health Counsellor Youth Justice Worker Substance Misuse Officer Careers Advisor Speech and Language Therapist Educational Psychologist Through working with the students on a daily basis and being housed under the same roof, the taskforce will ensure access to the right support, in the right place, and at the right time. This is an exciting opportunity to join us at the start of the next stage of our development. If you would like to find out more about this opportunity or our academy, please visit our website (www.carltonmill.trinitymat.org) or come along to our information event on Wednesday, 12th February at 16:00. If you would like to attend this event, please register your interest by contacting Jess Wood (jwood@grammar.trinitymat.org). Our vision is to be the most transformational academy in England. If you would like to be part of our journey, we look forward to hearing from you. Start date: To be agreed Closing date: 9am, 10 February 2025 Interviews: To be confirmed Apply now!
