This is a fixed term contract for 12 months to cover Maternity Leave. We understand that balancing work & domestic life is challenging & that shift work doesn't always suit everyone. Because we don't currently routinely open at weekends or on Bank Holidays, this role is a great opportunity for someone seeking to develop skills and knowledge, whilst working a more family-friendly shift pattern (Mon-Fri, between 8am & 6pm). The OPD leadership team consists of a Band 7 Senior Sister/Manager & a group of Deputy Managers. The Deputy Managers hold responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the team & service delivery & enjoy significant autonomy & flexibility to shape service delivery & influence the department's culture. Managers work flexibly to cover each other's annual leave and provide leadership in all areas across the five locations where we host clinics for specialties which include Haematology, General Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics, ENT, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Rheumatology, Diabetes and Endocrine, Pain, & Rehab. Main duties of the job The Deputy Manager duties include being a visible and approachable leader in the clinics, empowering staff to provide the best possible service by developing them to achieve their full potential and ensuring they have the resources required for them to do their jobs well. There are opportunities for service development, and you will be pivotal to the team's success; you will take a leading role in writing SOPs, training staff, undertaking audits and investigations, and identifying opportunities and planning for improvement. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop through work-based learning and peer support and through structured development programmes offered by the organisation and HEIs. There may be an opportunity to undertake the British Orthopaedic Association 'Casting Certificate' for candidates who have experience in Orthopaedics. Person Specification Skills and Abilities Essential Evidence of ability to plan and organise Ability to undertake audit and implement service improvement Excellent communication skills Ability to lead a team successfully (Is an enthusiastic, supportive motivator) Is a confident decision maker Ability to work under pressure Adaptable to change Experience of using Health Roster Desirable Degree or working towards HR management experience Application of medical devices such as aircast boots, plaster casts Knowledge Essential Practices in line with NMC Standards and requirements Current challenges and developments in Outpatient services Surgical procedures and supportive interventions associated with Orthopaedics, ENT and Fractures Experience Essential 3 years Experience as a registered Nurse in an Outpatient, Theatre, Endoscopy (or similar) setting Experience of undertaking audit and implementing service improvement Orthopaedic experience HR Management experience Education and Qualifications Essential Registered General Nurse with current registration Evidence of recent CPD relevant to the role Educated to Diploma level Assessor Status Computer Literate Desirable Evidence of study at Degree level
