Amersham Hospital is one of several Community Hospitals within the Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. We have three inpatient areas: Chartridge Ward, Waterside Unit, and Buckinghamshire Neuro Rehabilitation Unit.

Chartridge Ward is a 22 bedded ward within the Community & Rehab Care Group. We care for individuals who are medically optimised for discharge, but need further support put in place before they can leave hospital.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse to join the Chartridge Team as a Band 6 Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse on a part-time basis. The successful applicant will be expected to work a flexible shift pattern, including Long Days, Nights, Weekends & Bank Holidays.

As a Deputy Sister / Charge nurse you will be expected to ensure safe and effective care for patients, while promoting our 'Get Up, Get Dressed, Get Moving' ethos. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors and other staff within the clinical environment, working in conjunction with the wider multidisciplinary team to successfully discharge our patients into the community.

We also expect you to have knowledge and basic competence in the following areas:

Patient assessment Care Planning Tissue Viability & Wound Management Discharge Planning & Co-ordination Medicines Management Palliative Care & Symptom Management Diabetes Management Continence management

Main duties of the job

Act as a credible visible role model for all junior nursing and allied healthcare professional staff. To actively participate with MDT meetings, raising and discussing concerns and actively seeking acceptable and best outcomes solutions for the patients. Ensuring that patients and relatives views are heard and taken into account. To support the department team in resolving clinical and operational issues on a shift by shift basis, whilst ensuring that best practice nursing care is delivered. To work in collaboration with the manager to establish a cleanliness culture across the department ensuring that patient environment is well maintained, clean and safe. The post holder will need to maintain and supervise junior members of staff in ensuring that nursing care delivered to all patients is established on an individual assessment, it is with planned evidence based care, it is documented that it is implemented and it is evaluated as to its effectiveness. The post holder will be expected to work closely with the ward manager to ensure that quality driven indicators are monitored through audit.

RN (Adult) with NMC Registration Degree in Related Field (Or Relevant Experience) Relevant Post-Registration Experience

Completion of Appropriate Leadership & Management Programme PASS Course / Mentorship Qualification / Teaching Qualification

Experience

Essential

Previous Experience Working with Elderly Patients Providing Personal Care Experience of Working at Band 5 Level Within a Related Field Previous Experience in Teaching / Coaching / Mentoring

Evidence of Working in an NHS environment

Ability to Communicate Clearly & Effectively, both on the Telephone & Face-to-Face - Able to Respond to Those Who May Have Communication Difficulties Through Language or Understanding Have knowledge & insight into the importance of maintaining a safe working environment Excellent organisational skills & ability to assess and prioritise workload Awareness of own limitations and when to escalate concerns / seek advice Able to delegate tasks to others, as well as complete tasks set, follow & deliver instructions Physical ability and endurance to work in the clinical area as required by this post Ability to use Microsoft Word, Powerpoint & Excel to produce basic documents as required for day to day tasks Dexterity & accuracy required for medicine administration & clinical practice Awareness of mental health, and the impact of prolonged hospital stays on those over the age of 65
