An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Deputy Ward Managers to join our 24-bedded paediatric ward on a secondment basis to cover maternity leave. We welcome applications for both full-time and part-time positions. Our ward provides high-quality care for children and young people aged 0-18 years, covering general paediatrics, surgery, and orthopaedics. We also play a vital role in supporting children with long-term conditions as they transition into adult services. In addition, we work closely with a busy adjacent outpatient department, which is home to a dedicated, multidisciplinary team of paediatric nurses with expertise in oncology, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and complex care. If you're a passionate and experienced paediatric nurse looking for a leadership role within a supportive and dynamic team, we would love to hear from you. Key Responsibilities: Facilitate and support clear and effective communication with the child and their family. Coordinate with the Children's Unit, Emergency Department, and the wider multidisciplinary team. Liaise with external services such as GPs, Health Visitors, Children's Community Nurses, Social Services, and therapy teams to ensure seamless and well-coordinated care. Communicate sensitive clinical information to patients, relatives, and carers in a way that is appropriate to the child's developmental stage and level of understanding. Identify and address barriers that may impact the individual's ability to receive and comprehend information. Report any child protection concerns promptly to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse, Matron, or doctor. Deputise for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, overseeing the coordination of care and ensuring effective communication within the ward or assessment unit. At Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, we're committed to supporting our employees with a range of benefits designed to enhance your professional and personal life. We offer: Flexible working options to help you balance work and life. NHS pension scheme for long-term financial security. Generous annual leave allowance to recharge and relax. A strong focus on career development to help you grow and achieve your potential. Access to our Blue Light Card, unlocking exclusive discounts on shopping, dining, and leisure activities, as well as NHS-specific perks to support you both inside and outside of work. Why Somerset?

Somerset offers the perfect blend of idyllic countryside, outstanding areas of natural beauty, and breathtaking coastlines, with vibrant cities like Bristol, Bath, and Exeter just a short drive away - and only two hours to London. The region is home to excellent educational facilities, and with affordable housing compared to other parts of the country, it's a great place to build both your career and your future. Somerset truly has it all - the peaceful countryside and cosmopolitan city life, with something for everyone to enjoy.
