Job Description

This is an opportunity for a director to join a small to medium-sized, successful legacy practice in Central London. The role would suit a current director or architect who is performing in a director-level role. The studio has a rich portfolio of residential small to medium-sized developer-led schemes in London and the home counties and a committed team. As director, you will be working alongside one other director to lead the team. The role will co-lead a team of 20, encourage great design, and continue to work on exceptional projects. The studio is currently involved in medium-scale residential housing and delivers exceptional schemes in London and the home counties. The current director has a strength in technology, delivery, and repeat work with developer contractor clients. Ideally, the studio is looking for a profile who has a network in residential to complement their existing core sector expertise. The new director is ideally a profile who enjoys work winning, storytelling, and can network to bring in a client base over time. Although the role is not targeted, there is an expectation to bring in work. The success of the role and studio is the ability to grow the business by bringing projects in. The company ethos is hands-on and down-to-earth with a flat hierarchy. This role requires a capable individual who may not be ready to run their own practice but is keen to work in a smaller team. The role is supported by 4 associates who are all project runners and currently not yet at a work-winning stage. A profile who can encourage confidence in this area for the team would be beneficial. This role is ideal for a current partner or principal who wants to move away from large firm practice and have more autonomy and decision-making. This is ideal for an architect who does not want to set up their own practice but instead join a collective and grow an existing studio. The studio is open to complementary sectors of urban design, education, commercial workplace, or interiors. Responsibilities: Fee earning responsibilities. To develop a network of clients in a complementary sector to the studio. Analyze and develop briefs for client and project needs as part of project team assembly. Developing and improving business processes. Create a business plan for succession with the current director. Experience and Skills: Qualified architect with 15+ years of experience. Knowledge of the processes and inputs involved in all RIBA stages. Led multiple projects through all RIBA stages, ideally in the UK. Creative thinker around project improvements and processes. Hands-on with a strong attention to detail. Experience of business and office leadership and strategy. Strong, confident communicator who can convey information about projects, events, and business needs to directors and the team. Agile to work in demanding stages of projects. Experience of working with senior-level management. Experience of winning work, leading competitions, and/or has a network of clients to develop.
