Design Engineer - Electric Powertrain

Principal Engineer , you will be

focused on the design of components and systems for high voltage powertrain systems into high volume automotive production programmes, alongside R&D and development projects, as well as mentoring others. The role will also include collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the delivery of efficient and reliable systems that meet attribute targets for cost, quality, durability, and performance. This pivotal role will operate in a hybrid capacity from our offices in Leamington Spa. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the most visionary minds in the automotive field. What you’ll do: Design and develop systems for electric powertrains for battery electric vehicles, including thermal management systems, EDU, transmission and driveline, and associated components. Deliver design concepts and agreed content to meet the needs of the Vehicle Line Manager for Programme Requirements, as well as packaging and integration of sourced components. Conduct detailed engineering analyses, simulations, and modelling to optimise powertrain performance, efficiency, and thermal management. Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and brainstorming sessions to drive innovation and continuous improvement in powertrain design. Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure the successful production launch of powertrain components and systems. Create and/or contribute to the development of technical documentation, specifications, and standards related to powertrain design and integration, including DFMEA, DVPs, timing plans, etc. Who you are: Experience of Electric Powertrains (Battery to Driveshaft) or similar discipline within an automotive engineering environment. Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Proficient in CAD Software packages, Catia V5/V6 preferred. Experience with simulation tools such as FEA, 1D, etc. Demonstrable understanding of electric powertrain architectures and underlying principles and technologies including thermal management, HV harnessing, electrical safety systems, serviceability and control strategies. Experience of system/component delivery within an APQP, six sigma or similar framework (FMEA, DVP, quality planning, PPAP etc) and full product lifecycle activities.
