Purpose : To play a key role in the Engineering function in Walker PC UK, ensuring that the Company has a range of high quality, technically innovative and commercially competitive medical products to offer to the market. Primary responsibility will be to design, develop and maintain the products with innovative design, high performance and competitive cost from production and supply chain. In addition, the role requires that the candidate will be responsible for the continuous improvement and re-engineering of existing products. Duties also include engineering support and assistance to other functions internal and external to the business. Scope : Working as part of the Engineering team, the role is very much ‘hands on’ where you will be tasked with creating innovative new designs to expand our current product portfolio. The role will also be involved with maintaining existing product ranges with projects focused on optimization and cost savings. Additionally, you will support the other departments with problem solving and technical enquiries. The position reports to the Engineering Manager of Medical products at Walker Filtration in the UK and will involve extensive cross-functional interaction, particularly with marketing, production, quality and supply chain at all stages of product development. You will also have the opportunity to lead a development project from functional design to serial production. RESPONSIBILITIES Design and Development The design, development, verification and implementation of technically innovative and commercially competitive new products. To ensure that all component parts and products are designed in strict compliance with mandatory national and international regulatory requirements and standards. The maintenance and improvement of existing products and components for quality improvement, production efficiency and cost reduction. To manage and lead projects when required, providing engineering leadership ensuring that projects are delivered on time and to budget, from concept through to launch, some of which may be outside of the normal remit of the role in the design. The production and maintenance of technical documentation, including CAD drawings, costing data, design calculations, bills of materials, test data etc. To assist the Engineering Management team as required. Education and Experience As a Design Engineer for mechanical, you will be technically strong and will have a relevant BSc or MSc (preferably with a mechanical bias). More than 5 years’ experience in a product design and development role with a demonstrable and proven track record of new product development success while working to stringent deadlines and budgets. Strong abilities in concept generation, mechanical design, DFMEA process, sense of design for production and service. Ideally experienced in the design and development of pneumatic control systems, medical gas pipeline systems, air compressors, vacuum pumps or desiccant dryers. Proficient 3D CAD user with experience of Inventor and Vault. The competencies listed are appropriate to the position and are an illustration of the qualities that the Company requires. Self-motivated, systematic, controlled and well-organised, building professional relationships, instilling confidence and trust. Attention to detail with a diligent and pragmatic 'no-nonsense' approach to task and project completion is essential, as is a drive to perform tasks properly and thoroughly while adhering to company guidelines, procedures and policy. Decisive; possesses the ability to rationalise and make reasoned technical and commercial decisions particularly under pressure. Commercially astute with a thorough understanding of the importance of completing projects on time and to budget. Communicates proficiently and effectively at all levels.
