Design Engineer

to join our Vehicle Design team and help us deliver innovation and excellence on and off the track. About the Role: As a Design Engineer, you’ll take ownership of engineering projects from concept through to detail design, supporting Research & Development, manufacturing, car build, and testing programs. Your work will directly contribute to the mechanical integration of electronic systems and harnesses across our vehicles, ensuring optimal performance. Main Duties Collaborate with Electronics Engineers to design enclosures, wiring, and instrumentation installations across the entire car. Participate in hardware design reviews, providing valuable insights and feedback on various designs. Develop and oversee mechanical tests, including vibration and shock tests, ensuring all equipment is validated for use on the car. Design rig fixtures for the validation of electronic assemblies, sensors, and actuators. Liaise with Mechanical, Composites, and Aero groups to integrate electronic hardware into the car, managing component deadlines and interdependencies. Partner with production and inspection teams to resolve manufacturing issues and contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives. Take ownership of specific components, progressing from conceptual design to delivering high-quality parts for the car. Deliver structurally efficient, cost-effective designs with a strong focus on mass, stiffness, and cost trade-offs. Perform supporting calculations for structural and functional analysis. Ensure concise and clear communication across teams and stakeholders. Conduct thorough fault analysis and implement timely rectifications. Exhibit flexibility with working hours and actively contribute as part of a collaborative design team. Adhere to company quality and safety standards in all tasks. Core Competencies Proficiency with software systems used in vehicle design. Comprehensive understanding of engineering designs and component drawings aligned with defined standards and procedures. Self-motivated and innovative, capable of working efficiently under pressure with minimal supervision. A collaborative team player who leads by example with an open-minded, responsible, and constructive attitude. Skilled in building and maintaining a high-performance team culture through engagement and support. Approachable, with sound judgment and a high level of personal integrity. Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and deliver results on time. Qualifications and Experience Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, Marine, or a related engineering discipline. CAD expertise, with experience in NX and Teamcenter preferred (training available for other systems). Mechanical design experience, ideally within a motorsport environment. Knowledge of GD&T and experience working to a defined drawing standard, such as BS8888. The ideal candidate would have previous experience with Harness routing and the integration of Electronics components. What can Williams offer?
