You must be a sole British national and have worked/lived in the UK for the last 5 years to apply for this role. SC clearance will be required, and the client will take you through the clearance process. Tasks: Leading working groups, meetings and reviews with Consultant / Contractors. Leading delivery of technical packages of work. Managing a team of multi-discipline engineers. Authoring, developing, assessing, maintaining, and managing the suite of Clyde Nuclear Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents. Management of design changes/concessions. Presentation of Clyde Design substantiations to Clyde ‘Due Process’ nuclear safety committees. Production and development of Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) Schedule, operating procedures and results to satisfy design requirements and safety case through life. Producing Periodic Review of Safety reports. Providing advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders. Production of Independent Technical Review (ITA)/Independent Peer Review (IPR). Using a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology. Applying appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission, and recycle engineering processes, systems, services and products in a nuclear/high-risk environment. Producing robust technical justification to allow for relevant civil/structural design modifications to be authorized within a high hazard industry. Reviewing technical reports and other safety case submissions from external contractors. Checking and reviewing calculations and technical documents written by other members of staff. Producing and improving technical processes within JPT. Experience: The Design Manager must have 12-15 years’ experience and be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in the technical management of large scale and complex design development throughout the design lifecycle. Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements. Strong understanding and experience of working in BIM environments. Sound project specification, planning, project management and budgeting experience. Sound understanding of Company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety (including Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM) and Quality requirements. Working knowledge of relevant engineering office computer applications. Experience of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities. Desirable: Ideal candidates would already have experience within HMNB Clyde or a similar high-risk environment. Familiarity with safety case development techniques e.g., HAZID/HAZOP studies. Experience of working in the UK nuclear industry (energy or defence), particularly in the design and assessment of safety-related structures, systems and components. Knowledge of UK and US nuclear industry regulation and practice, and application of relevant nuclear specific codes and standards.
