Our client, a prominent organisation in the highways and transportation sector, is currently seeking a Design Manager to join their team in a permanent capacity. This role is integral to the design and delivery of highway and civil engineering projects, serving both internal and external clients as part of their comprehensive Design Consultancy Service.
Key Responsibilities: Manage resources and capacity within the team to ensure the successful delivery of the work programme, meeting client expectations. Design and oversee the delivery of projects within the civil engineering discipline, including highway geometric alignment, pavement, and drainage design. Provide specialist technical expertise for highway design and civil engineering, supporting large-scale projects across the organisation. Lead the evaluation and authorisation of externally designed engineering schemes to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards. Support and lead Health and Safety management, ensuring adherence to legislation, policy, and best practices, including fulfilling the duties of Principal Designer under Construction Design and Management Regulations. Monitor staff performance, providing coaching and mentoring to develop technical expertise and achieve performance targets. Ensure compliance with internal and external standards, statutory responsibilities, and policies to maintain quality and safety standards.
Job Requirements: Experience in highway design and civil engineering management. Proficiency in managing resources and project delivery within the civil engineering sector. Strong technical expertise in highway geometric alignment, pavement, and drainage design. Understanding of Health and Safety management, including the duties of a Principal Designer. Ability to evaluate and authorise engineering schemes, ensuring compliance with specifications and safety standards. Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills to develop team members. Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering or a related field.
