About you:
We are seeking a Desilt Engineer to join our build team, who will be responsible for operating van-mounted jetting equipment to cover a wide range of drainage related issues across our sites. If you are a competent desilting engineer, we would love to hear from you!
The Role:
As a competent desilting engineer, you will be using your skills in van-mounted jetting equipment to support the build team in ensuring any blockages, emergency works, and cleaning ducts are completed within tight deadlines to enable the connections to homes and customer installations.
This role is 70% night shift work; start and finish times do vary.
Day to day duties:
Ensuring the vehicle is maintained, remains in a clean roadworthy condition both internally and externally, and that the vehicle and onboard equipment are operated in a professional manner.
Maintaining and ensuring the functionality of our underground infrastructure, including clearing underground conduits, ducts, and trenches of silt, dirt, debris, and any other materials to avoid obstructions to cable installations.
Responsible for rodding blockages, digging out silt boxes, and repairs and maintenance of ducts, including roping the sections for cable installations.
Working collaboratively with the installation, build support, and other teams to identify issues causing obstructions and proactively resolving these issues, taking relevant photographic evidence, and using the A55 process (for Openreach) when a desilt fails or is unable to be completed.
Working in accordance with permits required, including adhering to time periods, activities provided on the permit, and any reinstatements.
Ensuring work sites are set up in accordance with NRSWA and working confidently within Chapter 8 regulations and The Red Book (Traffic Safety Measures and Signs for Road Works and temporary solutions).
Working safely in accordance with our health and safety policy at all times and reporting internally to the H&S team when needed.
Carrying out risk assessments and method statements and dynamic risk assessments prior to commencing work and recording these on the IAuditor System.
Being available to work shifts within a 24-hour period as directed by the line manager.
Skills and Experience:
Experience with high-pressure jetting equipment across commercial sites.
Experience in rodding and roping of ducts and use of hydrants.
Experience in finding solutions to challenges with desilting.
Solid experience in setting up road traffic sites, with excellent knowledge of NRSWA and Chapter 8 of the Red Book issued by the Department of Transport.
Good working knowledge of the BT PIA Network.
Solid experience of working in compliance with road permits.
Experience in maintaining vehicles and complying with safety checks.
Working collaboratively with cables and civils contractors to complete tasks.
Full UK Driving Licence with less than 6 points.
Qualifications:
GCSEs or equivalent in Mathematics, English, IT, or Science ideally Grade 4 or above.
High pressure water jetting certificate.
CSCS Card.
SWQA 01 – Sign, Lighting and Guarding.
PIA – S007, up to 25mm DIA subduct & cable installation.
Smart Awards SA002, Underground Safety.
K008, Hand Rodding in the UG network.
WJA – Water Jetting Safety Awareness.
Confined Space Certificate.
Desirable:
NRSWA Streetworks Unit 2.
Manual Handling.
Asbestos Awareness.
Accident, Incident, and Near miss reporting.
