Job Title: Development Director - Iberia (Distributed Generation - Renewable Energy)
Location:
Madrid, Spain / Lisbon, Portugal Overview: Our client is seeking a highly experienced and commercially driven Development Director to oversee and grow a plethora of distributed energy assets, ranging from ground-mounted solar and BESS to C&I PV systems across Iberia. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in renewable energy, with a strong background in solar development. This role requires a hands-on leader who can effectively drive on-the-ground developers, manage project delivery, and navigate multi-party engagements, particularly in grid, planning, and customer contracting. Key Responsibilities: Lead the development and execution of distributed generation solar and BESS projects across Iberia. Provide strategic oversight on project delivery, identifying and mitigating risks in development, design, and execution phases. Drive and support developers on the ground, ensuring accountability and effective project management. Engage with grid operators, planning authorities, and corporate customers to facilitate project development. Work closely with the London-based back office for operational and financial support. Collaborate with major infrastructure investors and asset owners to align project goals and investment strategies. Build and lead a high-performing team in Iberia, as necessary. Key Criteria: Experience:
10 years in renewable energy, primarily solar, with a significant portion of that time spent in Iberia. Technical & Commercial Acumen:
Strong development and technical experience, beyond pure financial expertise. Project Oversight:
Proven ability to manage complex solar developments, including grid, planning, and multi-stakeholder engagement. Leadership:
Experience leading teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with the ability to drive performance and accountability. Industry Background:
Experience in an Independent Power Producer (IPP), a sophisticated developer, or a fund in a lead development/technical role. Language Skills:
Fluent in English; Spanish and/or Portuguese proficiency required (ideally native but not essential). Location:
Based in Madrid or Lisbon, with travel across Iberia as needed. Additional Considerations: Depending on performance and business needs, this position could evolve into a Managing Director role for Iberia.
