Cory is a leading recycling, waste and power company. Originating in the coal trade in the 1700s, the company currently takes much of London’s residual waste by barge to an Energy-from-Waste (EfW) plant it owns and operates on the banks of the lower Thames. The company is building a second EfW at the same site, which will create the largest single EfW campus in the UK, and one of the largest in the world. Cory is also developing a carbon capture facility adjacent to these facilities as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project, which could act as a strategic export hub for other emitters in London. Together, these facilities generate terawatt hours of heat – roughly equivalent to the entire heat consumption of the City of London plus half of the City of Westminster. Cory is working on several ambitious projects aimed at capturing and exporting this heat, to displace the use of gas and decarbonise heat across London. The projects are highly innovative.
