An exciting and unique development opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Rapid Diagnostic Service (RDS) Nursing Team at Harrogate District Hospital. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is passionate about the delivery of quality, patient-focused care, to join the team. Starting as a Band 6 and on successful completion of training, within a set time frame, become a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist. The RDS aims to enable a faster diagnosis for all patients with the highest level of care, fairness and compassion. The post holder will be supported and work with the existing RDS Nursing team to enable them on completion of formal training and competencies to rapidly triage and assess patients referred into the non-specific symptoms and suspected pancreatic cancer pathways. To plan and implement care across a variety of settings, providing highly specialist advice working as part of the multi-disciplinary team. Main duties of the job

The postholder will assess, plan, implement/co-ordinate and evaluate specialist nursing care, establishing mechanisms by which each patient has a coherent and comprehensive care plan throughout their pathway. These plans will be developed in conjunction with the patient and carer according to their needs and include appropriate referrals to other disciplines. Provide appropriate support, information, education, advice and possible investigation/treatment modalities at all stages of the pathway. Act as the patient's advocate, particularly when informed discussion may lead to choices being made concerning investigation/treatment options. Assist in the process of attaining informed consent. Contribute to MDT meetings and treatment/care planning decisions. The postholder will attend RDS Clinics alongside the RDS CNS's to provide information and support to patients and their relatives/carers. Review patients following MDT meetings in agreement with the nursing team and provide a specialist resource for patients, carers and health professionals. Provide advice and support to health professionals within the Trust and Primary Care in relation to the RDS and ensure liaison with appropriate members of the MDT. Working for our organisation

Qualifications & Experience

Registered General Nurse Evidence of continued professional development Evidence of Masters level learning or prepared to work towards to include clinical assessment skills and non-medical prescribing Evidence of good communications skills Knowledge of cancer quality standards and the national cancer strategy. Advanced Communications Skills Training or prepared to work towards Recognised teaching qualification or prepared to work towards Experience within cancer nursing Experience of audit and research Employer certification / accreditation badges
