Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the radiation protection team as a Diagnostic Medical Physicist (or someone close to achieving this or wishing to train to become one).

We will also consider this as a Band 7 Progression Role to Band 8a on completion of competencies.

We have the potential for part time working or annualised hours!

You will carry out the usual duties and role associated with this responsibility including carrying out and supervising QC of x-ray equipment.

You carry out the roles and duties as specified in the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017.

There is a lot of scope for development within the role and the team if interested.

Main duties of the job

Carry out Diagnostic Medical Physicist role for Diagnostic Imaging work carried out across the Mid and South Essex Group (MSE). Assist in routine diagnostic quality assurance and control across the MSE. Provide Diagnostic Medical Physics input into the Alliance Medical PET-CT facility sited at Southend Hospital and others as directed. Develop additional skills / train other staff creating resilience in the team. Develop skills or offer support within the fields of MRI and Laser protection. Working for our organisation

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As expected of a senior role, the candidate would be expected to take responsibility for QC of equipment, supervise and train other team members.

This includes incident management, research applications, protocol development, etc.

They would be expected to attend relevant meetings and represent the team when required.

We will also consider this as a Band 7 Progression Role to Band 8a on completion of competencies.

Person specification

Professional

Essential criteria Experience in the role of diagnostic MPE or ready to qualify. On the HPC register of clinical scientists. Desirable criteria Experience of QC of x-ray equipment. Experience of developing protocols and work instructions. Experience of training, presenting, representing departments at meetings. First degree in physics or equivalent. On the RPA2000 list of Diagnostic MPEs. Educational

Essential criteria Degree in physics or equivalent. Masters degree in medical or radiation physics or equivalent. Please be aware as per the new Immigration guidelines we cannot sponsor candidates with a salary (full time or pro Rata) under the current minimum threshold.
