Digital Midwife Band 6 Job Overview The post holder will report to the Lead Digital Midwife and be a core member of the Maternity Digital Team working collaboratively and independently. The digital midwife will support the lead on all activities regarding the electronic patient record systems within maternity, including initial and ongoing system development, implementation, training, and ensuring the accuracy of data within the service. They will work with the Lead Digital Midwife and the multi-professional team to improve the accuracy and completeness of data quality and ensure that national data quality standards are met.

Your role will include supporting the process of monthly reports of KPI, the maternity dashboard, and cross-checking of data to ensure accuracy. You will work with members of the multidisciplinary team within the hospital and community venues, including midwifery staff, medical personnel, coding, contracts, informatics, and digital. You will deliver information based on current evidence-based research.

You will need to maintain a clinical element to your role along with participating in the escalation rota.

Main Duties of the Job

Be responsible for all aspects of the ongoing management and development of the maternity information system.

Monitor the quality of use of the maternity system for all clinical, agency, and admin staff.

Provide support for staff with the day-to-day use of the maternity information system.

Lead in implementing new solutions as the needs of Maternity Service change and the capabilities of the IT systems evolve.

Collaborate with the IT Supplier and technical staff at the Trust to implement new interfaces to other Trust and Maternity Systems.

Work with the Trust’s information Department towards the effective provision of information for clinical, business, and research-related purposes.

Review current and future clinical information requirements in maternity services and draw up plans for meeting those requirements.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

Help generate reports from the Maternity Information system and liaise closely with senior managers to meet national survey and audit requirements.

Assist in writing robust reports for various committees and meetings.

Work with specialty leads to make recommendations for change in practice based on audits and analysis.

Be an active member of the guidelines group.

Support the submission of monthly dashboard and quarterly KPI information.

Liaise with the coding team to ensure correct coding and payment pathways.

Work with the Information Department in submitting the monthly MSDS report.

Liaise with the Hearing Screening team, Child Health Hub, and Birth Registration for correct information transfer.

Support the Antenatal and Newborn screening team with data collection and submission.

Assist staff in undertaking audits and research with data requirements.

Collaborate with the governance midwife to develop and advance practice.

Person Specification Education, Qualifications & Experience

Registered Midwife

Excellent IT knowledge – Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint software

Evidence of ongoing professional development

Two years post-registration experience

Experience in all areas of midwifery practice

Experience working with healthcare clinical IT systems
