The office base is at 30 Minna Road, Burngreave, Sheffield S3 9AZ. The SAGE allotments are sited on Grimesthorpe allotments, Burngreave, Sheffield, S4 8LE, the venue for the singing group may vary. Attendance at all sites is needed to fulfil the role. Benefits:

Purpose of the job: The Director is responsible for the leadership, overall management, strategic development, resourcing and service delivery of SAGE. The Director is accountable to the Board of Trustees and provides line management to all staff. The Director works with Trustees and staff to maintain the quality of service provision and ensure the long term sustainability of the organisation. The Director is expected to drive improvement in the organisation built on a passion for the voluntary sector, and the resilience to deal with its uncertainties. Main duties and responsibilities: Strategic Development
Provide strategic vision and leadership to the operation and development of SAGE, within the direction set by the Board of Trustees and any currently agreed business plan. Keep abreast of issues and developments that might impact on the organisation. Ensure that the charitable purposes of SAGE are followed. Deliver the charitable benefits as may be set out in SAGE business plans, and update/instigate/contribute to such plans. Maintain and develop strategic partnerships that benefit SAGE.
Organisational Management, Service Development and Delivery
Overall responsibility for the management, delivery and development of SAGE’s services. Overall management of the office premises, work sites and equipment.
Fundraising and Financial Management
Working with the trustees, develop and implement a fundraising strategy. Seek out fundraising and contract opportunities, submit funding applications or tenders and where agreed, work with others on funding opportunities. Liaise with funding bodies and produce progress and outcome reports as required. Seek out and develop alternative income streams. Set and manage the annual budget acceptable to the Board of Trustees and ensure the sound financial management of SAGE within that budget. Maintain accurate financial records to meet organisational needs, and legal and tax requirements. Provide reports to the Board of Trustees Finance and Human resource sub-committee and ensure the Treasurer is informed of significant financial issues. Organise the preparation and submission of end of year accounts and liaise with accountants.
Staff Management
Provide, in conjunction with the staff team, line management supervision and support to all staff, volunteers, students and others working on SAGE’s behalf, ensuring they feel valued and able to work effectively. Meet face to face with staff on a regular basis at one of SAGE’s worksites. Carry out annual appraisals for all staff. Ensure supervision is available and delivered to all staff, sessional workers and volunteers. Identify and arrange suitable training for staff, sessional workers and volunteers. Lead on the recruitment, induction and training of staff, sessional workers and volunteers.
Governance
With Trustees, ensure SAGE operates within the parameters of the Memorandum and Articles of Association as well as ensuring legal compliance with all relevant rules and guidance set down by the Charity Commission, Companies House, the Fundraising Regulator and Employment Law etc. Maintain the governance structures and documents, with support from trustees. Support the Board of Trustees to govern effectively ensuring the Board and its committees receives advice, recommendations and information in an effective, thorough and timely manner. Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees and its committees. Serve as the data-controller for SAGE and ensure GDPR compliance. Work with the Chair of the Board of Trustees to enable the Trustees to fulfil their duties and legal and other responsibilities for the proper governance of SAGE. Carry out Health and Safety management duties for SAGE.
Monitoring and Evaluation of SAGE’s Service Delivery
Maintain and develop monitoring systems. Keep abreast of latest practice in monitoring and evaluation. Produce reports of data generated through ongoing monitoring, including quantitative and qualitative evidence of outcomes. Prepare, segment and report qualitative and quantitative data in response to needs of funders. Visit delivery sites as necessary/required to monitor, understand and evaluate premises, staff, members and service activities.
Administration and Finance
Finance Use suitable software to record income and expenditure. Book-keeping tasks: Process invoices, use online banking and cheques as needed. Handle petty cash and banking. Record income and expenditure. Reconcile expenditure with bank statements. Produce management reports comparing actual income and expenditure against budgets for chair and trustees. Process salary and pension payments. These tasks will have paid book-keeping support but remain the overall responsibility of the director. Maintain and develop the SAGE website and social media. Produce publicity materials. Distribute publicity via email and maintaining our mailing lists. Provide information to other agencies regarding SAGE. Management and development of appropriate manual and electronic filing systems. Manage incoming and outgoing post and e-mails. Answer telephone, email and postal queries where appropriate. Maintain stationery and equipment stock levels and placing orders. Organise meetings and book venues, catering, transport etc for events. Minute taking. Maintaining and updating electronic and paper-based records of referrals and service users. Updating and maintaining inventories.

To undertake other duties as reasonably required by the Trustees.
