They are looking for a Director of Legal Services to lead the legal function and support on their journey to creating an inclusive workplace and reflect their value and diverse community. Description This is an opportunity to be Director of Legal Services for the organisation: you will be responsible for the development and application of a strategy for the provision of legal advice and legal services to the organisation. Your responsibilities will include: Ensuring the organisation is legally compliant, in all internal and external undertakings, to advise upon and manage all aspects of legal risks and to make sure they make the most effective use of its legal powers for the benefit of donors and patients. Being a senior and trusted advisor to the Board, CEO, Executive Team and the wider organisation on the interpretation and application of all relevant legislation. Leading the legal function and developing it towards an excellent inhouse legal service. Leading, motivating and developing colleagues supporting legal processes, including individuals that report directly to you, and through professional leadership of colleagues across the wider organisation. Being an effective and engaged member of the leadership team, supporting at a very senior level the strategic direction of the organisation. Ensuring that the inhouse legal function is compliant with current SRA guidance. This will involve leading, recruiting and providing training to lawyers and non-lawyers. You will also be managing a broad caseload including areas such as: Administrative and public law matters, including judicial review claims and appeals. Regulatory law matters. Freedom of information and data protection. Contract law and procurement issues. Major Projects. Profile The successful candidate will be an experienced Solicitor/Barrister with public sector and leadership experience: Proven board level experience, and leading and delivering complex change and strategy development programmes in a politically sensitive and complex environment. Experience of handling complex legal cases. Expertise in one or more relevant core area of law (employment law, procurement law, data protection, or litigation related to clinical safety) together with relevant experience of governance, administrative law, public law and/or regulatory law. Experience of analysing financial and non-financial data to draw meaningful insights. Extensive experience of contract law and procurement issues. Background in similar industry would be advantageous (Public Sector and Government / Healthcare) We would also like you to be willing to be flexible with your working hours and to travel on occasion where appropriate and therefore hold a valid driving licence. Job Offer A successful Director of Legal Services will receive: Starting salary between £105k - £121k per annum Flexible working from Manchester or local site 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, increasing with service NHS pension scheme (defined benefit) This post is subject to a DBS check.
