This is an opportunity to play a leading role shaping the new Research Centre for 21st Century Public Health at the University of Bath.

You will be heading a multi-disciplinary team spanning the Departments for Health, Social and Policy Sciences, Economics, Psychology and Management. The Centre builds on the ground-breaking work of the Tobacco Control Research Group (TCRG) to look at the harmful products and practices of major corporations at a global level. Bath’s novel approaches to research, policy and practice within complex systems aim to drive effective action on 21st century public health challenges.

About the role

As the most senior non-academic member of the Centre, you will be engaged in developing and promoting its strategic vision and managing priorities for activities. In particular, you will seek new streams of research grant funding. You will manage the Centre’s day-to-day operations, foster the team culture, and lead on engagement with stakeholders. You will line manage a team of senior managers and work closely with researchers, knowledge exchange, communications, and administration experts who are engaged across multiple grants in the Centre’s portfolio.

This role is offered on a full-time (36.5 hours per week), permanent basis.

About you

You will be experienced in leading and managing a complex team working within a research theme complementary to the work of the Centre.

With a comprehensive knowledge of team leadership and experience of developing and operationalising strategies, you will also have: Proven experience of effective leadership, line managing senior and experienced colleagues, and fostering positive team cultures for all A proactive approach to leading, motivating, and managing the work of a large team Experience of grant capture and grant management or strongly applicable transferable skills Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to network effectively A higher degree in a relevant subject or extensive equivalent experience No existing or previous work or links with the tobacco and nicotine industry and able to declare any interests with unhealthy commodity industries (full details included under special conditions in the job description).
