Director of Policy & Governance for Cyclical Economy Location:
Southampton, Hampshire (hybrid available) The Director of Policy & Governance for Cyclical Economy will lead and manage AVASK’s Cyclical Economy initiatives, with a focus on policy, governance, and their commercial derivatives. This role will emphasize Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Batteries, and Single Use Plastics (SUPs). Responsibilities
Define and execute a global strategy for EPR, WEEE, Batteries, and SUPs that aligns with organisational goals. Lead efforts to influence and shape Cyclical Economy policies through collaboration with government agencies, industry groups, and NGOs. Provide strategic advisory services to Senior Management and the board on EPR, WEEE, Batteries, and SUPs. Ensure compliance with EPR, WEEE, Batteries, and SUP regulations across multiple jurisdictions. Oversee the development and continuous improvement of compliance programs related to packaging, waste collection, recycling, and reuse initiatives. Develop and enforce controls and procedures to mitigate risks and ensure alignment with regulatory frameworks. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for cyclical economy initiatives. Identify opportunities for innovation in EPR processes and recycling systems. Conduct training sessions to educate employees and partners on compliance requirements. Stay ahead of global legislative changes and update policies and compliance strategies accordingly. Collaborate with internal teams to integrate cyclical economy principles into the company’s sustainability strategy. Prepare reports on compliance activities and performance metrics for senior leadership. Promote and advocate for best practices in resource efficiency and waste reduction. About You
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. Professional Experience:
8-10 years in environmental compliance or sustainability, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Demonstrated expertise in EPR, WEEE, Batteries, and Circular Economy initiatives. Strong knowledge of policy development and governance frameworks. Experience in compliance programs for Packaging EPR, WEEE, and SUP reduction strategies. Technical Skills:
Subject matter expert in Packaging EPR and WEEE compliance. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. Ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams. Relevant certifications in environmental management are a plus. Soft Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Highly organised and detail-oriented. Commercially savvy, balancing regulatory compliance with business objectives. Proactive and self-motivated in addressing compliance issues. The Benefits
