Job Description

Overview: The Director of Studies on our summer programmes is responsible for the effective running of the language courses and the wellbeing of both teachers and students. They work closely with the Centre Manager to ensure the success of the programme. The Director of Studies will adhere to BSC Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policies while working with us. They may be asked to participate in non-academic duties if the need arises. Accommodation and Meals are included in the salary offered.

Duties: Conduct induction for teachers Collect all student levelling data and group students into class levels Setup weekly reports for teachers to complete Mail Merge reports and certificates for students Email certificates and reports to GLs for each group Support teachers with challenging situations; remain objective Plan and deliver language-focused and engaging lessons Cover duties as the need arises Follow BSC syllabus and ensure teachers are doing so Check teachers are submitting weekly planners and reports on time Carry out ‘pop-in’ observations on all teachers regularly Be observed and receive feedback Conduct teacher observations and give constructive feedback Line manage Senior Teachers – focus on developing their leadership skills Support teachers with lesson planning and delivery Plan and deliver at least 1 INSETT session Organise graduation photos and project showcase days Lead the academic team and support the summer team as a whole Conduct weekly academic meetings Organise and assist with placement testing Be in regular contact with and report to the YL Academic Operations Manager Report any student absences to the welfare team/centre manager/GLs Assist the Centre Manager as needed Attend induction held at the centre Remain professional at all times Comply with BSC Uniform Policy (BSC t-shirts are provided) Comply with BSC Centre rules and regulations Be a positive role model

Child Protection & Safeguarding: To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons you are responsible for and come into contact with Familiarise yourself with the BSC Young Learners Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and BSC Safeguarding Policy To adhere to the BSC Young Learners Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and BSC Safeguarding Policy Ensure student ratios are maintained in accordance with site rules and BSC Young Learners Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy Complete BSC Safeguarding Level 3 Online before you arrive at the centre Report safeguarding issues if/when they occur Other Responsibilities: Work positively as part of a team Demonstrate a positive attitude Attend and participate in all centre team meetings Act according to accepted professional standards at all times Act in the welfare of the students at all times To carry out any duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Centre Qualifications and Experience: DELTA or MA TESOL or MA linguistics/other qualifications considered plus extensive experience as a DoS on summer programmes At least 4 years’ experience working with young learners High level of computer literacy, particularly MS Office, email, and use of databases Excellent lesson planning skills Adaptability and flexibility Ability to work well in a team Ability to remain calm under pressure Enthusiasm for summer school life Right to work in the UK/EU (depending on the respective centre) Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance Experience of British Council Inspections Current First Aid Certificate is desirable
