NHS AfC: Band 8d Job overview We have an exciting leadership opportunity to join our Trust as Divisional Chief Nurse for neonates, paediatric ward, day unit and emergency department. This role will also lead on care pathways for CYP across the Trust. Working alongside the leadership team for the Women’s Health and Paediatrics Division, this new role is pivotal in providing nursing professional leadership, workforce planning and delivery, supporting delivery of the clinical strategy.

Reporting to the Divisional Director and Chief Nurse, this role will bring expert knowledge in the field of paediatrics and neonates, providing direct leadership to clinical areas NICU, Paediatrics ED, Paediatrics Ward and Paediatric Day unit. Additionally, there are a number of clinical specialist roles you will provide leadership to, ensuring clinical service developments aligned to our clinical strategy.

Main duties of the job The Divisional Chief Nurse will act as part of the quartet leadership team with the Associate Director of Operations, Director of Midwifery and the Divisional Director in the Women’s Health and Paediatric Division to create a culture within the Division that facilitates excellence in clinical services through patient-centered multi-professional team-based care. They will ensure quality of services to patients, visitors and staff, including management of clinical governance, healthcare standards and risk.

The Divisional Chief Nurse is specifically accountable for the delivery and performance of the patient care provided both within the Division, implementing the Trust Nursing and Midwifery Strategy, national NCYP strategies and Guidance and the ASPH Clinical Strategy, and also lead on the care and pathways for all CYP across the Trust. The DCN NCYP will ensure standards of care and treatment meet the registration requirements of the Care Quality Commission, national specific clinical guidance and other regulators.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities They will provide senior strategic visible clinical and professional leadership for all Paediatric patients across the Trust, including across the multidisciplinary team. Providing specialist expertise and taking specific responsibility for patient safety, quality and experience, the post holder will promote quality, innovation, productivity and performance that improves quality of care and patient outcomes.

• Lead the delivery of patient pathways/service development according to ASPH Clinical Strategy, national specialist guidance and workforce needs ensuring excellent care and outcomes.

• Lead and manage the Divisional nursing workforce.

• Work collaboratively with the divisional and Corporate Quality team and specifically provide oversight for the Quality and Safety team within WHP services.

• Ensure oversight of Divisional governance processes and provide assurance of all processes.

• Responsible for the delivery of excellent quality nursing care providing highly specialist and expert advice to the Trust and Division on all nursing matters.

• Ensure strong and effective ward management is in place.
