About the role Applications are invited for a Documentation Manager in the Department of Antiquities at the Ashmolean Museum. Reporting directly to the Keeper (Senior Curator), you will join a team that is responsible for one of the most important collections of archaeological material in the United Kingdom totalling approximately 500,000 items and therefore almost half of the Museum’s entire holdings. You will work across all areas of the Department of Antiquities collections, providing oversight and guidance for the Curators and Collections Management Team regarding documentation tasks. Responsibilities will include maintaining existing paper records (accessions registers, index cards, handlists, catalogues and object history files) as well as creating/enhancing digital records to agreed standards in accordance with the Museum’s Collections Management Policy and related procedures. This is a permanent part-time post, working 22.5 hours per week. This role requires working at heights, lone working, driving on University business, and regular manual handling. About You You will have experience of working in a museum or other cultural heritage institution and with collections databases and/or collections management software, preferably with reference to archaeological objects and specific terminologies relating to archaeological collections. You will have excellent data entry skills, including accurate data cleaning, processing and analysis, with an eye for detail and proven ability to work with precision and accuracy. You will have knowledge of national data standards for museum collections, especially relating to Arts Council England’s UK Museum Accreditation Scheme, as well as familiarity with the principles for the planning, organization, and running of archaeological projects, especially concerning national guidelines for depositing excavated material and related archives in museums.
