The early years practitioner will be responsible for the welfare, learning and development of all children, in particular a key group of children as their key person. Purpose of the job:

Take a shared responsibility for the welfare, learning and development of all children within Bright Sparks Nursery, by working with initiative and creativity to foster an environment that encourages the children’s all-round development. Bright Sparks Nursery is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It is a requirement of all staff that they share this commitment and follow the prescribed policy and procedures to continuously promote a culture of safeguarding across the whole organisation. Main Duties: Implement policies and procedures to ensure the welfare requirements of the “Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework” are met. Assist in the planning of appropriate experiences for children, to meet the learning and development requirements of the EYFS framework. Take on a role of key person for a designated group of children, liaising closely and building an effective relationship with parents/carers and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met. Support carers and other professionals in the identification of learning or care needs and ensure that the setting is fully inclusive. Make regular observations of key children and compile individual learning journeys for all key children. Record development progress ensuring that they are recorded in accordance with policy and procedure. Support and promote smooth transition when children leave the setting and move to school or a new setting. Take shared responsibility for standards of safety, security, hygiene, cleanliness and tidiness throughout the nursery. Maintain the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene in nappy changing, food preparation and snack/lunch areas. Take shared responsibility for the care, maintenance and security of all equipment and toys within the nursery. Adhere to nursery policies and procedures. In addition, provide practical input during the annual policy review. Policies of importance: Children’s rights and entitlement. Safeguarding. Confidentiality and client access records. Information sharing. Uncollected child. Maintaining children’s safety. Making a complaint. Valuing diversity and promoting equality. Supporting children with SEN. Achieving positive behaviour. Employment of staff. General information from policies of importance: To respond, record and act on concerns with regard to safeguarding children from abuse and share information with the designated safeguarding officer (nursery manager). To ensure that your knowledge is up to date in line with EYFS requirements. To care for the safety of children by following appropriate health and safety policies and procedures, being vigilant in identifying potential risks, carrying out assessments where appropriate, and reporting faulty equipment to management. Provide first aid when necessary and complete written record of any incidents, accidents, sickness or pre-existing injuries. Parents/carers must be informed, and signed acknowledgment is required, and then filed away appropriately. Maintain confidentiality at all times. Ensure that all concerns and complaints are dealt with in a professional manner and in accordance with policies and procedures. General information: It is important that good quality interactions occur each day, and this is supported by continual updating of current practice, recognising children as individuals and ensuring their needs are recognised and met. This can be achieved by developing self-help skills and promoting personal social development. It is important to be an active member of the team, relating positively to the children and assisting in creating a climate where parents/carers, volunteers, and other professionals feel welcome and their contribution is valued. It is important for all staff members to work within the team, in a professional and respectful way at all times. Attendance at team meetings is an important part of this. It will be necessary to complete mandatory training updates (e.g., food hygiene). Attending other training of interest will be encouraged. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and does require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
