Their expertise covers all aspects of planning and rural land management, and they are committed to delivering exceptional service and innovative solutions. The Role Our client is seeking to appoint an Ecologist or Senior Ecologist to join their expanding planning and rural teams. Based primarily in their Horley office, you will work alongside their established Surveyors, Planners, and Architectural professionals. In this role, you will conduct ecological surveys and prepare reports to support planning applications, focusing on enhancing opportunities to deliver various levels of biodiversity net gain. Your key responsibilities will include: Undertaking ecological surveys Advising project teams on ecological legislation Developing mitigation and enhancement measures Managing subcontractors Representing clients as a professional witness when required This role offers significant opportunities for career progression. The Ideal Candidate You will hold a degree in Ecology or a related field and be a qualified member of CIEEM (MCIEEM). With at least 3 years of experience in ecological practice, you will have significant experience in conducting ecological surveys, preparing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, protected species surveys, and Ecological Impact Assessments. Familiarity with the Natural England Biodiversity Metric 4.0 and the ability to identify optimal enhancement measures for sites is essential. You should have a solid understanding of UK and EU wildlife legislation, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage workload effectively. A full driving license and access to a car are also required. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is crucial, as is an awareness of health and safety practices.
