Role Outline This pivotal role is perfect for a proactive professional who excels at tackling complex challenges, energising teams, and building meaningful client relationships. As the Regional Director/Associate Director, you will be at the forefront of our ecology services, blending technical leadership with strategic oversight to achieve exceptional results. Overseeing the Midlands region and being part of the senior management team within the ecology discipline, you will leverage your skills and experience to drive strategic growth in both your people and our business, focusing on client relationships, collaboration, and staff development. In this role, you will generate and respond to tender opportunities with Tetra Tech’s bid team, confidently develop client relationships, and support a team of ecologists in the delivery of our important work. Working closely with Tetra Tech’s multidisciplinary teams, including planning, placemaking, engineering, transportation, and asset management, you will engage in a broad spectrum of projects and collaborate regularly to deliver challenging and fulfilling projects. Your ability to think on your feet, provide guidance and support, and shape the long-term goals of the ecology team within the wider business will be crucial. Cultivate and sustain strong relationships with both existing and new clients, establishing us as a trusted partner for all nature-related needs. Project Leadership:

Take an active role in projects, providing expert ecological input from initial consultation through to delivery, as well as supporting more junior project managers in the Region and National Team with troubleshooting. All Regional Directors/Associate Directors will be trained to Tetra Tech’s Project Management training to Level 2. Technical Expertise:

Provide high-level technical guidance to the National Team to ensure projects meet regulatory and environmental compliance. Supervise and review the development of standard technical solutions and verify that outputs meet expected quality standards. Lead the development of technical excellence and solutions based on relevant best practice and research, including knowledge sharing across the national Ecology team. Experience of Ecological Impact Assessment and Habitat Regulations Assessments is required. Team Development:

Mentor and inspire team members across the national team, fostering collaboration and professional growth. Handle line management responsibilities, including timesheet signoff, pastoral care, and duty of care for the technical specialism. Business Growth:

Play a key role in the growth and development of the National Ecology Team, contributing to the strategic development of the Ecology department and the wider Tetra Tech business. Engage in business development activities, including awareness of market conditions, opportunities, and competition, and identify and deliver opportunities with new and existing clients. Requirements: An appropriate academic qualification in a related discipline. Full Member and Chartership of an appropriate professional body (CIEEM). Demonstrable and relevant experience of the environmental consulting industry including positive leadership skills. Hold a full driving licence. Flexible Working We operate fully flexible, hybrid working which allows our Environmental specialists to choose where, how and when they work as long as our clients are receiving the high-quality service they expect. The role will require working closely with the ecology leadership team, national ecology team, mentoring and managing other consultants and developing relationships with clients and colleagues so may require some time at an office or alternative working space to suit those involved. About the team Over 90 permanent ecologists across 14 offices working as one cohesive team. Time away from home minimised. IT systems allow seamless remote and flexible working, so proximity to an office is not a barrier– we focus on talents & skills, not postcode. Cars or car allowances to every member of the team regardless of grade, including for personal use. Established TOIL system to allow time management to suit specific personal needs alongside seasonal demands. Career frameworks provide clarity on how to progress. Bat handling licence incentivisation scheme to thank ecologists who spend time and effort in achieving their licence. We award a significant financial bonus to anyone achieving Chartered Environmentalist/Ecologist status through CIEEM. We work closely with many other teams, including our own Planners, Archaeologists, Landscape Architects, Masterplanners and Engineers.
