Economic Development Officer

35 hours per week Permanent £33,116 - £35,671 / £26,072 - £39,412 / £39,941 - £44,120 £18.15 - £19.55 / £19.77 - £21.60 / £21.89 - £24.18 per hour The above amounts include Distant Islands Allowance

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Enterprise and Economic Growth Team to assume a leading role in facilitating the delivery of the new UK Government Levelling Up Fund Orkney Towns Board Programme. Your primary role will be to support the Council's management team in working directly with the Orkney Towns Board Chair and Board members to develop and deliver this £20 million, 10 year Programme. In addition, you will be a core member of the Council's Economic Development team; having the opportunity to work one to one with local businesses and community groups on grant opportunities and development activities. You will also input to economic policy research programmes and policy development including work linked to key economic sector development and profiling.

We offer this post on a scalable basis depending on applicant experience. A minimum entry qualification of SCQF 6/7 (SVQ3, HNC etc) applies but a successful applicant will be placed on the salary range according to relevant qualifications and experience - for example, where you may have been working either in a public sector agency promoting economic development or within the private sector with pertinent knowledge of SMEs and supporting business communities.

The new Orkney Towns Board is a unique opportunity to direct investment to key project and programme activities which can have significant positive economic and community benefit for Orkney. This post will have a driving role in these critical activities for Orkney and will include working in partnership with other public agencies to support sustainable economic growth and development.

You should be an articulate and persuasive communicator in written and spoken forms with good interpersonal and negotiating skills and have the ability to engage well with others. We are looking for someone with a strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration but who can also take the lead on projects/work and use your own initiative - which will be particularly critical in providing direct and responsive support to the Orkney Towns Board.

A self-motivated person with the ability to produce high quality work consistently to meet strict deadlines when under pressure will be essential qualities for the postholder.

Working knowledge of IT applications, particularly in relation to the Microsoft Office Suite is essential.

This post requires Basic Disclosure Scotland Clearance.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
