Renfrewshire Council recognises the crucial role SMEs play within the local economy and has developed a range of support programmes designed to encourage job creation and business growth.

We are looking for a highly motivated person who is seeking a challenging role within a busy economic development environment. Working as part of a team, you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality, customer-focused start-up service. Customers, particularly young people, will access the service through requests for assistance, proactive promotion of services and opportunities available, and referrals from other departments and agencies.

The role will focus on the needs of start-up businesses, particularly those of young people. As a Start-up Advisor, you will assist with the delivery of the Business Gateway service, providing advice and support to start-up clients as well as facilitating our Women in Business Network.

It is essential that you demonstrate experience of providing advisory support directly to small businesses, knowledge of the Business Gateway Programme and associated processes and procedures, understanding of key business development issues faced by new-start businesses, understanding of the financial information used by businesses, and the ability to identify needs and develop innovative and proactive solutions for SMEs.

Additionally, you must have the ability to engage productively with clients, stakeholders, pan-sector bodies, and other statutory authorities, experience in delivering bespoke support packages to SMEs, effective communication, presentation, and report writing skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with others.

You must be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a small team to meet deadlines and targets, and have a positive, enterprising, engaging, and proactive approach.

A HND or equivalent in an appropriate discipline is essential. A Premier Adviser or SFEDI business adviser qualification is also essential.

A degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate discipline and a driving licence are desirable.
