Electrical Design Engineer Annual Salary: Up to £50,000 DOE Location: Newcastle Job Type: Full-time We are seeking a skilled and ambitious Electrical Design Engineer to join our client’s team. This role involves designing, developing, and implementing AC electrical systems and components for various projects, with a focus on LV Power Distribution, industrial control panels, and busbar systems. The successful candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Day-to-day of the role: Design and develop LV electrical systems for Electric Vehicle Charging applications, ensuring compliance with project requirements, safety regulations, and applicable standards, specifically BS EN 61439. Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications using EPLAN Electric P8 and Pro Panel. Select appropriate components, equipment, and materials for AC power systems, considering factors such as efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers and production teams, to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with overall project design. Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to evaluate the viability and potential challenges of proposed electrical designs. Support the procurement process by reviewing vendor proposals, assessing technical specifications, and providing guidance on equipment selection. Oversee the manufacture and testing of AC electrical systems, troubleshooting any issues that arise and ensuring compliance with design specifications. Conduct thorough documentation of electrical designs, including technical reports, operation manuals, and maintenance procedures. Stay up to date with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes relevant to AC power systems, and apply this knowledge to enhance design practices. Maintain regular contact with production staff to ensure all designs and product selection are suitable for manufacture and provide technical support as needed. Required Skills & Qualifications: HND/HNC or Degree in a relevant field. Proficiency in EPLAN Electric P8 and Pro Panel – Highly Desirable. Minimum of 5 years’ electrical engineering design experience in a relevant discipline. Experience working in a manufacturing environment. Experience of leading junior staff. Familiarity with relevant industry standards such as IEEE, IEC, and BS EN 61349, and the ability to ensure compliance with these standards in design activities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work within specified timeframes. Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks in a dynamic work environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously. Benefits: 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays.
