We invite applications for the post of an Electro-Optical Assembly Technician in the Quantum Technology Division based in Cambridge, UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for the manufacturing and assembly of Toshiba’s innovative Quantum Cryptography products. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and world leading assembly team, supported by one of the best known companies in digital electronics and services. Appropriate training will be given. Responsibilities:

Assembly and testing of the fibre optic sub-assemblies and systems to meet the production plan targets. Assembly and testing of electronic PCB sub-assemblies. Contributing to the improvement of product designs to drive efficiency and continual improvement in the manufacturing process. Developing new processes to improve efficiency and product quality. Advising on the selection of new components or new test methodology. Writing assembly and test reports and contributing to the technical file. Implementing suitable incoming component inspection and test processes to maintain quality standards of the business and monitor electronic and optical suppliers performance. Supporting manufacturing requirements in other geographical regions by acting as a reference expert in product assembly. Essential requirements

Significant electronic assembly experience, with a degree level or vocational qualification in electrical, electronic or optical engineering preferred. Excellent understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing assembly processes. Practical knowledge of test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, DMM, and Signal Generators. Previous experience of working in a low volume high value technology manufacturing environment. Be pro-active and use initiative with attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. Ability to take ownership of activities and deliver to completion, within agreed timescales both individually and within a small team. Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Desirable:

Experience of working with and splicing of optical or fibre optic devices. Experience of soldering to a recognised industry standard.
