This is a demanding but exciting role with scope for development and progression. MSL are leading specialists in the manufacture of bespoke magnetic shielding. Having been established for over 65 years, our experience and expertise allows us to adapt to the changing market and provide high quality, complex shielding solutions for emerging applications. Our products have assisted in medical research, electric automotive, aerospace, high-end audio and many more electronic applications. Our ability to design and manufacture bespoke products, including installation of fully commissioned magnetically shielded rooms, offers our customers high quality products to meet their specific needs. Working with physicists and other engineering colleagues on the design, development, documentation and practical build of original equipment, as well as the practical build of repeating products to meet customer expectations within tight timescales. The equipment designed and built will possess an electrical and electronic content together with supporting mechanical content. Responsible for the experimental setup realization and measurement of magnetic fields across a range of frequencies from DC (0 Hz) to VLF (3-30 kHz) for both research and technical support purposes. Design, construction and operation of compensation coil systems for nullifying magnetic fields and systems for the degaussing of large magnetic shielding enclosures. Set up and operate tests both in house and externally, whilst documenting procedures and reporting results. Communicating with customers to generate design requirements and provide technical support, which can involve occasional site visits. Working within the team on product development with low noise electronics (Amplifiers, DAQ). Collaborating with universities and external partners in the development of coil technology and other relevant electronics for diverse commercial and research applications. Ensuring product development complies with relevant CE standards. Defining and documenting suitable parts in order to meet customer requirements is a key requirement. Helping to shape the development of an expanding electronics department. Hold a relevant engineering degree in the field of electronics engineering 2-5 years relevant and transferable experience Extensive experience in circuit design and PCB layout ideally with Altium, with knowledge on manufacturability and designing for CE Excellent analogue and digital fundamentals, ideally with low-noise design experience Experience with MRP/ERP systems including creation of BOMs and routings, ideally Progress Plus Practical & workshop experience with a range of electronic measurement and signal generation equipment Experience of providing technical documentation Keen eye for detail and analytical ability Excellent IT skills with strong knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project Ability to demonstrate logical and reasoned approach to problem solving Strong initiative and ability to work autonomously on projects Good understanding of health & safety requirements Self-motivated in approach with strong communication skills, including liaising with other departments and customers Experience with microcontrollers/microprocessors (PIC, ST32 ARM etc.) Experience with FPGAs (Xilinx) Experience designing multi-layer flex circuits with awareness of manufacturability. Experience coding with C++ / Embedded C, LabVIEW Excellent understanding for the generation and testing of DC & AC magnetic fields An awareness of EMI shielding techniques and a familiarity with EMI testing standards, i.e.: MIL-STD or IEEE Excellent understanding of computer aided design techniques and familiarity with MCAD software such as Inventor An ability to support off-site work with potential for occasional UK and overseas travel
