Position Summary

Middleton is a small town located in Essex County, Massachusetts, with a population of approximately 10,000. The town has gained popularity in recent years due to its location and amenities.

We are seeking an innovative, forward-thinking school leader to inspire our teachers, staff, and students. The district focuses on three pillars: inclusive practices, social/emotional learning, and innovative teaching practices.

Position Function/Job Purpose:

This position provides the leadership necessary to enhance the educational development of each student. The Principal is responsible for day-to-day building administration, ensuring a safe and effective educational atmosphere, providing discipline as necessary, and enforcing school policy.

Qualifications:

Certified as a principal by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at the elementary level.

A master’s degree or higher with a major in educational administration.

A minimum of five years teaching and/or administrative experience at the elementary level.

Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.

Ability to set performance standards and evaluate activities of all building personnel.

Demonstrated success in formulating and implementing policies, programs, and practices.

Experience with curriculum implementation and staff development programs.

Strong public relations skills and ability to relate to pupils, parents, colleagues, and administration.

Knowledge of Special Education regulations.

Experience with developmentally appropriate social-emotional learning programs.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Supervises classroom instructional practices.

Plans, organizes, and directs the implementation of school activities.

Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate.

Works with the Assistant Superintendent to implement the curriculum and mandated assessments.

Maintains complete school records relating to enrollment, attendance, grading, etc.

Implements and supervises the school’s Special Education Program.

Evaluates teachers according to the state’s Educator Evaluation Standards.

Prepares and submits the school’s budgetary requests and monitors expenditures.

Promotes effective instructional practices for students and teachers.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

Terms of Employment:

Determined by the Boxford School Committee and documented in an individual contract as negotiated by the Superintendent of Schools.

Work Environment:

Ability to work in a close environment.

Ability to work in a moderately noisy environment.

Ability to handle frequent interruptions.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift 25 lbs.

Be physically and emotionally capable of carrying out responsibilities in a busy environment.

Vision requirements include the ability to read routine and complex documents and use a computer.
