How you will make an Impact (Job Summary) SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be part of Radiodetection's Bristol-based multidisciplinary engineering team, and undertake design, development and maintenance of software for locator products. What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities) While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be: DSP/Micro based platform bring-up, configuration, development and debugging. Investigation of firmware issues found in testing, production, or discovered in the field. Working closely with hardware, test teams, requirement analysis, design and integration. Contribute to research and project proposals for innovative products. Participation in technical peer reviews. What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education) We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has: Required Experience • C/C++ development for embedded DSPs and micros e.g. TMS320x, STM32x. • Programming with real-time constraints, RTOS / bare-metal. • Experience with UI, display drivers and display frameworks (e.g. QT). • Device drivers, peripheral code development and debugging including low level registers. • Experience of wireless protocols and device driver development, especially Bluetooth/Low Energy. • Experience with serial port interfaces like UART, I2C, SPI. • Experience of wired data communications and device driver development, especially USB. • Experience of version control/tracking tools e.g. Git, JIRA. • Memories and their interfacing e.g. NOR/NAND Flash, eMMC, EEPROM. • Experience of embedded design tools, emulators, Code Composer Studio and Visual Studio. • Demonstrable experience in embedded firmware design. Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Experience of wireless protocols and device driver development e.g. GSM, WIFI. • Experience of developing and debugging bootloaders. • GNSS (GPS) positioning devices/technologies and NMEA messages. • Experience of analogue and digital signal processing. • Network interfaces e.g. Ethernet, and associated protocols. • Understand h/w schematics. • Embedded Linux. • Qt/QML for application development (ideally on an embedded platform). • Continuous Integration tools, such as Jenkins. Education & Certifications • BSc / MSc or equivalent in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or similar.
