EMC Engineer

MERITUS Talent are working with one of Europe's largest weapons manufacturers to recruit an EMC Engineer to join their Bristol offices. EMC Engineer - Bristol - £55 per hour - INSIDE IR35 - Hybrid - 6 Months Overview of department: The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) department is unique. It is divided between a test team working hands-on in our state-of-the-art EMC Facility to simulate environments and a highly skilled project consultancy team embedded across all projects to ensure good EMC practice & design. This role is within our EMC Project Team, which supports programmes throughout their product lifecycles from concept to disposal. The majority of the work involves establishing, progressing, and delivering risk reduction and qualification strategies to bring a product into service. This includes writing documentation, reviewing hardware, and may involve hands-on review and some informal testing. The EMC Project Team supports projects from Bristol and Stevenage to ensure correct requirements are implemented, designs are robust, and the strategy is appropriate. The test team then performs formal testing in the products' intended electromagnetic environment at the EMC Laboratories in Bristol. Responsibilities: EMC engineers manage assigned milestone deliverables associated with EMC Engineering activities and act as the focal point and specialist for EMC requirements for the MBDA project teams. The role involves writing Environmental Requirement Specifications (ERSs) and subsequent documentation, including EMC Control Plans, Proving Plans, Proving Requirements, and Proving Instructions in support of product development and qualification. Our EMC engineers oversee EMC qualification testing to ensure evidence is suitable for our customers, working across functional and international boundaries to resolve sophisticated technical problems using analytical tools. Skillset/experience required: Essential: Higher education or significant experience in Electronics, Electrical, Physics, EMC, or similar fields. Good understanding of EMC and design principles. Excellent communication skills at all levels, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work to defined deadlines and within budget limits. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Professional manner and adaptability when the company's needs evolve. Capable of working autonomously to meet the delivery needs of the company. Desirable: Knowledge in the application of military EMC standards to system, sub-system, or equipment level (e.g., Defence Standard 59-, AECTP500, Mil-Std-461, RTCA DO160 / EUROCAE ED-14). Engineers with previous experience in delivering support around electromagnetic compatibility.
