Emergency Department Paediatric Sister/Charge Nurse

We are seeking an experienced Registered Children's Nurse to join our Paediatric ED team at West Suffolk Hospital. We have a paediatric area within our emergency department which is staffed with a dedicated team of paediatric nurses. We work to ensure that children presenting to the emergency department are treated in an appropriate area with suitably trained staff. The unit is staffed with at least 2 registered nurses 24 hours a day and has its own full-time unit manager. In addition, we have support from a full-time play specialist, a part-time Children's Advanced Nurse Practitioner, as well as the ENP team and medical teams. Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be working with the paediatric ED lead nurse and other Paediatric sisters to ensure the day-to-day running of the department. They will be responsible for ensuring the unit is staffed and that junior staff members are supported, meeting the urgent and emergency care KPIs and standards, liaising with the inpatient unit and the main emergency department, as well as delivering direct patient care. They will also be responsible for supporting patient care needs and escalating staffing, estates, and equipment issues to the lead nurse and other appropriate pathways. The Paediatric ED department is a spacious, light, and air-conditioned area. It is self-contained and has 5 trolley areas, an examination space, a dedicated triage room, and a spacious waiting area. Person Specification

Education and qualifications

Registered Nurse (Child Branch) Supervisor and assessor training (or equivalent) Evidence of ongoing professional development EPALS / APLS Provider Post-registration qualification in a relevant area Study at degree level Experience and knowledge

Significant experience in an acute paediatric setting at band 5 or above Teaching experience Clinical audit experience Previous experience in ED nursing Involvement in implementation of change Skills and abilities

IV Drug Administration Research awareness Venepuncture/cannulation Able to prioritise care Sound underpinning knowledge of clinical practice within specialist and extended enhanced clinical skills Knowledge of recruitment, staff development, and performance management Advanced nursing skills (e.g., plastering, suturing) Research & Audit

Understanding of clinical effectiveness and quality issues Research awareness Awareness of current professional issues Experience in audit activities Ability to function and build interdepartmental relationships within the multidisciplinary team Commitment to delivering high-quality service Ability to show empathy and compassion to patients and relatives Disclosure and Barring Service Check
