An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for an experienced or aspiring Unit Leader to join our Emergency Department Team. We are looking to second a Unit Leader who will be a positive role model and can contribute to the trust's positive vision for the future. The ED department includes Majors / Resus / ISAT / CDW. The ED WWL has recently had a successful internal accreditation and CQC rating as "Good". This vacancy is advertised on a fixed-term basis to cover an employee on secondment and will end Dec-2025 or when the substantive post holder returns. While this post is advertised on a fixed-term basis, there is potential for the post to become permanent in the future. NHS employees should ideally secure their manager's agreement for a secondment prior to applying, as this will be a condition of any offer made. Main duties of the job

The post holder will need to be a highly motivated Registered Nurse with significant relevant post-registration experience in Emergency Care. You will need to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a driving passion and determination to ensure that quality and safety of patient care and experience is paramount. The post holder will demonstrate key leadership and management skills and will be responsible for providing clinical and professional leadership to the department. The post holder must have the skills needed to engage, inspire, and motivate staff in the clinical area and a passion to initiate and sustain new innovative ways of working. Job responsibilities

To lead the team in providing evidence-based nursing/midwifery care ensuring that care is assessed, planned, implemented, and evaluated utilizing a patient-centered approach to care. To oversee nursing activity in the department and ensure the smooth operational running of the department. Responsible for ensuring that there are adequate staffing levels and appropriate skill mix to meet the needs of the department. Ensure patient care is of a high standard. Responsible for recognizing and responding appropriately to situations which require immediate action. Deputise for the matron. Ensure performance standards are met in accordance with agreed objectives. Manage effectively the use of allocated resources/funding. To lead the team in the management of Risk and Health & Safety. Responsible for management of staff within the ward. Actively involved in selection, recruitment, and retention of staff. Ensure that staff receive an annual appraisal/PDR. Ensure that all staff have continual effective registration with NMC and are aware of NMC Code of Professional conduct. Person Specification

Qualifications

First Level Registered Nurse Evidence of leadership qualification or relevant experience. Evidence of continuing professional development. Experience

To be able to demonstrate extensive experience at Deputy Ward Manager level or equivalent. Experience of working within a surgical setting/clinical areas. Skills

Specialist clinical skills within appropriate field. Ability to manage a multidisciplinary team. Proven teaching ability. Ability to prioritize own workload and that of others. Ability to discuss/demonstrate research-based practice. Able to create a positive learning environment. Ability to motivate and lead. Ability to use resources effectively. Knowledge

Evidence of up-to-date underpinning theoretical knowledge. Up-to-date knowledge of current nursing and midwifery practice within the area. Additional

Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e., with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation. Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
