What does a 999 Call handler do?

Based within the Emergency Operations Centre at Lincoln, you will receive 999 and urgent calls from members of the public and Health Service colleagues. You will prioritise these calls in line with agreed protocols and provide pre-arrival advice.

Shift durations of up to 12 hours include night working, and we operate 24/7, 365 days of the year, including public bank holidays such as Christmas and New Year.

Successful candidates will have previous experience working in a pressurised environment and demonstrate an ability to work effectively and make fast-paced decisions whilst providing excellent care and advice.

The ability to work on your own initiative within a team, have effective verbal communication skills, and be computer literate is essential.

Application Process

Successful applicants will be invited to an online assessment on the 2/12/24. Following a successful assessment, you will be invited to an interview on the 7/12/24.

The start date for successful applicants will be the 10/2/25. Training will be 5 weeks full-time, followed by approximately 8 mentoring shifts. Due to the training period, successful candidates wishing to apply for part-time positions will need to commit to full-time hours. Annual leave is also restricted during the training.

Some elements of training may be virtual or off-site. Please bear this in mind when applying.

Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the post will be undertaken in accordance with the policies, procedures, and practices of the Trust, which may be amended from time to time. Patient safety is a key priority for the Trust.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you are fully compliant with EMAS policies and procedures in respect of patient safety, for example, Risk Management, Infection Prevention and Control, and Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
