Job summary Are you an experienced pharmacist looking for a new challenge? The Pharmacy Department at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a passionate and ambitious pharmacist to develop their specialism within the field of acute and emergency medicine. You will be joining our large team of specialist clinical pharmacists supported by a clinical team that consists of more than 100 staff, which is a combination of pharmacists, technicians, and clinical assistants. The post is patient-focused, where you will have the opportunity to expand your knowledge of acute management of a broad range of medical conditions. Through our excellent links with regional education, local universities, and in-house training programmes, staff will have the opportunity to develop their prescribing, educational supervision, and management skills. The role is Trust-wide with the expectation to travel to both Emergency Departments at East Kent University Foundation Trust. The role will enable you to develop clinical skills and knowledge from two busy Emergency Departments. We are a Trust in the South East of the country, all close to the seaside and gorgeous countryside, with fast links into London & France. Main duties of the job To support the Advanced Pharmacists for Acute Medicine and Emergency Medicine to provide a safe and effective clinical pharmacy service. You will be actively encouraged to contribute towards ongoing service development. The post holder will participate as part of the multi-disciplinary team in Acute Medicine/Emergency Department to support consistent and effective medicines optimisation. The post holder will also have a commitment to core services such as dispensary cover, extended hours service on the acute medical floor, and on-call, as well as contributing to a comprehensive clinical pharmacy on the emergency floor. You will be encouraged to participate in audit, project work, and completion of Non-Medical Prescribing. Provide a patient-focused clinical service Demonstrate and apply the principles of effective medicines optimisation as part of day-to-day activities Identify and address any medication safety concerns within their clinical area Contribute effectively to the MDT to which the post holder is assigned as a clinical pharmacist Support and develop the clinical pharmacy service Follow legal, ethical, professional, and employer codes of conduct in all aspects of the role Undertake and propose clinical and service audits as needed Conduct medication assessments/evaluations as required Demonstrate a critical approach towards pharmacy practice in emergency medicine Actively seek to improve the ward and clinical services provided Be a practice supervisor for Foundation Pharmacists and Trainee Pharmacists as appropriate Provide effective supervision of junior staff and feedback on their performance After suitable training, be an educational supervisor for pre-registration pharmacists Contribute to the training of other healthcare professionals, including direct delivery of teaching as needed Person Specification
