You’ll be someone who is both comfortable working proactively and managing your own tasks, as well as confident collaborating with others and communicating regularly with senior managers, directors, and BDO’s partners to help businesses effectively. You’ll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to organisations we work with.

Reporting to the Employee Relations Manager you will support and provide expert ER advice, tools and guidance to generalist, other HRD teams and business areas, enabling high quality professional advice and guidance to the business on all ER issues, people policies and formal processes. You will have pragmatic case management ownership and advise on all employee relations issues, including (but not limited to): probation, performance, sickness absence management, student termination meetings, flexible working requests, disciplinary issues, grievance and other ad hoc ER issues . You'll also:

  • Support ER Managers and ER Assistant Managers in complex case meetings organisational change programme activity, DSAR’s and tribunal claims 

  • Support ER Managers with ER budget tasks and ER management information reporting to analyse ER trends  

  • Pragmatic application of employment legislation to avoid litigation against the Firm 

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with managers/ partners in relevant business areas as the main point of contact for ER issues for the wider HR team 

  • Support the ER Manager in the development and updating of people policies in line with legislative requirements, firm business objectives, culture and value 

You'll be someone with:

  • Strong ER generalist experience within a relevant environment
  • Proven experience and ability to set up and support ER meetings; being able to take proficient notes and provide on the spot advice. 
  • A willingness to travel across UK to support cases as and when required.
  • Proven experience of pragmatic and commercial application of business aligned ER solutions
  • Good knowledge of employment legislation and external best practice trends.
  • Strong understanding of how ER matters impact commercial operations and vice versa.
  • Proven experience of interacting with and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Ability and confidence to understand when to escalate more complex issues to ER Manager. 
  • CIPD qualified (ER specific) (preferred)
  • Project management experience. (preferred)
  • Experience of writing outcome letters, succinct reports and recommendation papers to senior stakeholders. (preferred)
