The post is initially a 12 month fixed term but there may be the possibility to extend should future funding be secured.
It is highly desirable that candidates are competent in gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Candidates must have previous experience of endoscopic audits and should be able to demonstrate an interest in endoscopy research.
The post will comprise of 5 clinical sessions per week (flexible to include both endoscopy lists or clinics) and 5 non-clinical sessions.
The focus of the non-clinical sessions will be endoscopy-based research, often undertaken in conjunction with Newcastle University and the Northern Region Endoscopy Group. Responsibilities include: Endoscopy teaching and research into teaching as part of the Northern Endoscopy Training Academy & Northern Endoscopy Training Centre. ERCP/EUS training. University qualifications – masters of education or research for example through our local universities (Teesside, Newcastle, Sunderland, Durham). Quality improvement projects within the department. Additional clinical or SPA activities.

The successful candidate will also be expected to: Participate in endoscopy audits, teaching, training, and endoscopy courses, working closely with the MDT to provide an effective and efficient service. Contribute to training and education within the department. Participate in educational supervision, clinical governance, and appraisals. Undertake CPD. There may be an option to participate in the surgical/medical SpR on-call rota, or in an upper GI bleeding rota (after appropriate induction and supervision). This will be agreed between the individual and the Gastroenterology & Trust Endoscopy Lead prior to commencement of the post.
